They have plenty of successful dramas:
Doc Martin, Above Suspicion, Midsomer Murders, Lewis etc.
Obviously ITV would like every drama to be successful, but that has never been the case, and as you say, it's even less likely nowadays with audiences less inclined to give a second chance to anything they perceive as sub-standard.
If the
Married Single Other experience teaches ITV anything, it'll be the importance of getting the first episode right. I saw most of the first episode of
MSO, and they didn't even come close to getting it right.
We'll soon find out if ITV got the first episode of
Identity right.
One thing against it, though, is the Ratings Thread curse.

It's been chattered about on here almost as much as
MSO, He Kills Coppers and
Lost in Austen. And we all know what happened to those.
