Have to say I enjoyed the last half hour of MOTD tonight-some excellent items on Robben Island and Rorkes Drift.”
The BBC post-match coverage has been excellent throughout. I do think it says a lot about both corporations covering the event. The BBC chose to fill post-match with retrospectives of past tournaments and exploring South Africa's people and heritage. ITV decided to have James Corden's show.

I don't think quality is always key. A lot of critically acclaimed shows never manage to be a big hit with a mainstream audience. Doesn't mean they're crap.”
I didnt watch either but I do get the feeling people judge in this thread judge shows purely on their ratings without watching them. An Englishman In New York tanked ratings wise but was far from dreadful.

What happened? The rest flopped (arguably because of Five Days) and it was axed despite of the good quality overall of the series.
Surely we want at least 1 ITV drama series to succeed, crime or not, hey?”
ITV or any channel's drama series should only succeed if their good enough. MSO taught ITV a good lesson that their audience wont tolerate a poor first episode.

I agree. The Silence seems like the sort of thing that has a limited appeal. It could get 5m if its good, like Five Daughters got. However, if its poor it could be under 4m.

“I think it'll probably be two different audiences though and I can't see them harming each other too much. When WDYTYA clashed with Law & Order: UK neither was dented as they attracted different audiences and it was a good example of counter programming.”
I think both shows have a crossover audience. Both shows are usually competing for less viewers on a warm Summer night aswell. However, WDYTYA does rely on what celebrity is the focus of the show. Brucie should do good business first up.
