Or over the last few weeks when the World Cup has been on I think we all just have to face that there will be periods of the year when a show we may not like will dominate this thread from time to time

However, changing the subject, I was watching The Sky At Night- Patrick Moore still as sharp as ever- and I wonder how many viewers does it attract?

Would be interesting to see a geographical split for last night's ratings, with the South East enjoying a very warm day/evening, whilst much of the rest of the country was either cloudy or wet.

Getting Davina was good for Got to Dance, but I think securing a well known presenter who judges ITV's biggest dancing competition and a member of one of Britain's biggest girl bands is quite a big coup for FIVE. I was expecting an unknown or someone like Ian Wright.

I still haven't a clue about how DSB will do. It could very easily be below 1m, but then again could be nearer 2m. I doubt it will get much more than 2 million due to the early slot, time of year etc, but I guess it's been hard for FIVE to avoid the big guns like SCD, DOI, XF, BGT.

Saw an advert for it last night, looks ok-ish and there are a lot of break bumpers advertising it, as well as 5 minute advertisements at the end of H&A every day this week. Personally I would have had them inbetween Neighbours & H&A, but oh well.



I can understand where you are coming from, but surely we're allowed to discuss the countries 2 biggest shows on a RATINGS thread?? There's bound to be a lot of discussion, especially when both shows broke ratings records last year.

It definitely won its slot with (what I think was) just shy of 1m and a 18-20% share.

Most of the discussion is not about the ratings it's about the shows and acts on them. And putting SCD down as well whether you watch it or not if you're one of the real gloaters. I do agree it is relevant to discuss them but was just pointing out that the discussion of BB in here is minimal and certainly not at risk of taking over the thread compared to the BGT/XF weeks.

there is little doubt the news ratings will be up and even if 10% of viewers were flicking back forth, ratings will be affected, it was in effect live reality tv and a lot of people cant resist that

Ah, fair enough. (I think the only terrestrial ratings of main interest last night were BB and My Family/Old Guys on BBC anyway)

There was quite a lot of posts about World Cup scheduling before the event but not that much during the event. Most posters simply acknowledged the rating and moved on rather than the in depth analysis that a BGT or X Facor rating that carries on for pages and pages. Most World Cup talk has been from a couple of posters moaning about how bad a deal ITV got.


Well of course we can but you know it goes much further than just talking about ratings as open_ended said. A few days there were quite a lot of posts about X Factor scheduling and it was tedious. The show doesnt start for 6 weeks and still wont have finished in 5 months time!

Just to clarify my earlier point about BB discussion, I personally don't mind it but it sometimes gets a bit tiresome. Someone with no BB interest would definitely find it tedious to look through pages of discussion about how BB went up 0.2m and what it means for the rest of the series.

With regards to XF and BGT, it would be daft not to discuss them at length because of the scale of the ratings and its something not often seen in the UK, but with BB it gets 2-3m every night and isn't spectacular or noteworthy at all.

They're a mixture of full programme averages (ITV1) and match averages (BBC1), but I thought it was worth noting since it has the official ratings for the lower-rated matches which didn't chart in their respective Top 30 lists.

What do people think the ratio will be for tomorrow's final? The ratios for the last five major tournament finals that have been broadcast on both channels have been the following (in favour of the BBC):

1996- x3.0
1998- x2.4
2002- x4.3
2004- x3.1
2006- x4.9

The margin between the two has generally increased since 1996, but you can see that the gaps closed in the 1998 and 2004 finals. The smaller ratio in 1998 might've been due to ITV's coverage following on from Corrie (12.9m inheritence) and it being Brian Moore's last game commentating. Was 2004 Des's last match as presenter?

According to sports journalist Charles Sales, he claims:

The massive blunder with ITV HD missing the England goal and previous ITV cock-ups will surely mean viewers stick with the BBC. I'm expecting the biggest ratio yet, maybe 5-5.5 to 1, and in turn, ITV's worst ever Sunday primetime share and possibly lowest ever All Day share too.

Predictions time: the World Cup Final will get 20 million, 15 million on BBC One and 5 million on ITV1.
Looking to the autumn, I predict the X Factor will average out at 9 million and the final will attract 13 million. SCD will average 7 million. Both shows down but still respectable, but begging the question how much of a shelf life will they have.I reckon both will end in 2012 rather than drag on with falling ratings.

I think the BBC are just playing the expected ratio down whilst hoping its the highest figure to date so that they can laud it over ITV as much as possible.

BTW, is it to late for ITV to scrap their coverage of the final tomorrow for a Midsommer Murders repeat?

LOL. I dont think Southgate is that bad at all apart but we are heading for Broadcasting forum territory. I do think Chiles has made ITV's coverage slightly better though.

Can i just say i watched Big Brother, Sky news for 30 minutes then Big Brother again, i watch BB but i dont think the news begins and ends at Heat thanks.
