Indeed it was. It was his business doing pleasure with you, all that. I said the other week that the Corrie lead-in in 1998 was of no use to ITV as it meant they missed all of the Ronaldo stuff. The Beeb had EastEnders during the build-up, they had three ten-minute episodes set in Paris on Friday (when it wasn't always on Friday), Saturday and Sunday, but I remember Des didn't specifically introduce it during the build-up, he just said "We shall be back shortly" and it was introduced over the balloon.
In fact, like today, ITV were showing the British Grand Prix in 1998 as well. In 2006, the Final was on the same day as the Wimbledon Men's Final and when ITV got its lowest share ever, I think, some ITV bod said "Major sporting events always affect ratings". They were showing one of them!

Casualty's rating is a bit low but it's probably more prone than other shows to being dented by the football. Live at the Apollo repeats excellently so no wonder the BBC keeps airing old episodes. The football on ITV1 rated worse than I expected - was thinking it would get 6m excluding HD (3rd place match in 2006 had 6.8m).”

I dunno about Toy Story 2, they showed Toy Story 1 on the day of the Britain's Got Talent final last year and a fat lot of good that did. It's about the millionth screening. As for the third place match, in 2006 it followed the last in the series of Doctor Who and opposite it was Mrs Doubtfire, Millionaire and some boxing, as opposed to the lottery and Casualty which'll always pull in a decent audience.

With TWC ending tonight.... we are screwed if it goes to E.T and penalties, but this week should be quite good.
I reckon we can get a 3m+ official.”

So, what department of Endemol do you work in?

(in total, BBC's coverage today including the Red Button went from 12:10 to 16:40 - 4 and a half hours)
