Harsh drop for Identity, but not too surprising as a drama was airing on BBC1 too. I recorded Identity and watched The Silence instead. I wonder how many people did the same? Identity could get a decent timeshift.

The soaps are doing as well as expected. I think Corrie and EastEnders should aim to hit the 40% share.

We've already been told that the Moat thing peaked with Sky News at Ten having 900,000 - so the above must be wrong.

Good point. I always assumed that DS had access to this kind of thing in the form of a chart themselves and they just picked bits from there. Obviously not.

Unless the article from the weekend actually meant that 900,000 were watching BBC News and Sky News combined, although I am fairly sure it referred specifically to Sky News at Ten.

Or maybe it was a peak and not an average.

The bloke mentioned that it took up 9 out of 10 places in the multichannel chart - unless DS have ignored Moat and picked out the first 'non news' show.

Had the F1 finished at 15:15, the average for the programme would have been about 5.1 million - the longer post-race stopped it from eclipsing 5.0 million. (provisional schedules for Germany have the programme finishing at an earlier 15:00)

Superb ratings though, I think BBC1 being above 6 million between 13:15 and 14:30 deserves an . And again, the audience increasing through the race - which I have to admit doesn't tend to happen a lot with F1 races. (will find 2008 breakdown to compare in a moment)

When the F1 finished, the audience tumbled by over 1 million (don't forget the 15:30 rating takes into account the 5 minutes from 15:40 when the F1 had already finished)

The good thing is that it is the last of the stupid slots, for the rest of the week it airs at 10pm and then on Friday as normal for BB.

And The Bill will struggle tonight even more so!

Even with the usual downplaying of expectations by ITV High Command, that is a mighty old thrashing, and a simply stunning performance by the BBC - it would probably have been even better had the BSI numpties not scheduled new Top Gear against it (which did magnificently I have to say!).

Superb for the British GP too - 6.6m peak on a hot Sunday whilst completely overshadowed by the WCF!

Excellent for the news channels, especially Sky News which seems to have had the edge all night although the gap got much smaller it seems when Kay Burley came on air at about 23:30.

Some sad news to report today as the BBC confirm three presenting roles will be axed from the BBC News channel and two more on screen journalists from the entertainment news programme E24 which is set to be axed. However the cuts do not sound as significant as the 10 or more axed by BSkyB two months ago.


Ouch at all of those. The BBC's coverage of T in the Park did really poorly this year. I can see why they only committed to two hours of coverage on the Sunday now. Sky1 had a very poor night - House doesn't repeat very well so it's surprising that Five have started showing Season 1 again in the daytime.

Wow, erm.... where's ITV? The Chase is doing well, but apart from that it seems like they are not doing well in daytime at all! And it seems like Breakfast's share has increased, GMTV now below 20%? I bet they're hoping Daybreak doesn't flop spectacularly

Thank you for that. I reckon if you were to take the audience for Neighbours across both of its slots it would probably be in the top 4 or 5 which is not bad although obviously when it was on the BBC it used to be #1.

Elsewhere, Escape To The Country continues to perform well in repeats. The 5 O'Clock Show has been hit and miss depending on the presenter but it looks like Fern Britton went down well yesterday.

The 5 O'Clock Show up a lot? .... Did it not get 500k a few weeks ago???

Ouch! That's extremely poor for GMTV, and it seems to be having an effect on the rest of the line-up as Jeremy Kyle's figures seem low as well.


I'm got a feeling it'll be host dependent - get a good chatshow host and you get good ratings, get someone who's not well known and it flops.

Pay channel, not pay TV - but I do think beyond Sky1 Sky don't have the best approach too their multi-channelling strategy. Sky Real Lives would probably perform much better if it was branded as Sky2, especially now Sky2 is basically Sky1+1.


Based on Mondays - if you thought the sob stories on X Factor were bad, wait till you see this. Kids who've failed exams, refugees from somewhere in Africa, bullied, in children's homes etc. Virtually every sob story we've seen on The X Factor in six years was crammed into the VT of just one act - and from what we saw of them rehearsing, they certainly haven't got the talent to back it up either.


This is now going to become pretty regular with broadcasters switching to stripped dramas. In the long term they're shooting themselves in the foot for a short term gain because ultimately weekly dramas on both the BBC and ITV are going to suffer when the other side plays out a stripped daily series.


I'd hardly call 3.6m on a summer Monday a "terrible return", especially for a show with no hosts.

Channel 4 could do much much worse than a Richard & Judy type format with Fern Britton presenting. If she can double ratings for The 5 O'Clock Show then theres no reason why, with a format to suit her, it couldn't get 1.5-2m.

GMTV's ratings show ITV are perfectly justified in overhauling it, but maybe Adrian & Christine aren't the right people to do it.

I agree - just make sure Paul O'Grady is nowhere near it and find the compromise between the more entertainment based Paul O'Grady and topical based Richard and Judy and they could have a hit. Fern has said too she would like the slot permanently.

Huge share for Emmerdale-one of its highest this year! But if that was boosted by High Street Dreams, then why wasn't Corrie? It's share looks pretty normal to me..

Corrie and the rest weren't boosted because of Moat - it broke about 19:40 on Friday.
