I think Kate would do well. She seems a good candidate with her abilities to present the News and the more relaxed Breakfast show. Would also have the experience and able to hold the presenting together if Manford went off on a tangent.

Modern Family has really taken off in Australia thanks to Masterchef which is also doing quite well, Packed to the Rafters premiered solidly, not as high as Underbelly but I imagine it'll retain its audience better than it.

In regards to Larry King, surprised Anderson Cooper isn't consider a frontrunner, Ryan Seacrest seems an odd choice and he couldn't do it on a regular basis without dropping one of his many commitment like Idol, E! shows, Breakfast show etc Katie Couric is an odd choice too given she trails behind ABC and NBC News.

I think Piers has a shot but I think they'd go for an American host but if he got it, he would have to reduce his ITV commitments.

I'm sure another Sun article will no doubt make Robbie happy!

Quote:
“SUNDAY wasn't just a disaster for the England football team - ITV scored its lowest audience rating EVER.

It was hit by a "perfect storm" of glorious weather encouraging Brits to switch off and stay outside - and World Cup football on BBC.

Fewer than one in ten people bothered watching the channel during the day - and one ITV show pulled in a measly 30,000 viewers. No programme got more than four million.

Shows like detective drama Lewis, film Wimbledon and even its World Cup highlights show crashed and burned on ITV's darkest day for 55 years.

The BBC's screening of Wayne Rooney and England's thrashing by Germany was the biggest headache, hauling in 17.8million viewers - 76 per cent of all people watching.

ITV waved the white flag with a repeat of Poirot that got 500,000, just two per cent. Argentina v Mexico on BBC1 and Top Gear on BBC2 punished ITV further. Lewis, a repeat, didn't get four million.

The lowest number of viewers - just 30,000 - watched kids' show The Fluffy Club. Last night an ITV insider called Sunday a "disaster waiting to happen".

He said: "No one was expecting us to do particularly well on Sunday and when the mercury started rising earlier in the week, we expected the worst.

"You could say it was the perfect storm - great weather and great football on the BBC.

"People were faced with two choices - stay in and watch the Beeb or go out and get a tan." ITV's previous worst ratings were on July 9, 2006, the day of the World Cup final.

Last night an ITV spokesman admitted the channel had expected a battering.

He said: "Naturally, the fact that BBC1 broadcast England's game against Germany, as well as the later game between Argentina and Mexico, impacted on all other channels on Sunday.

"However, ITV is delighted to have broadcast the two most watched games of the World Cup so far with England's opening games both attracting audiences in excess of 20million on ITV1 and ITV1 HD."

well of course ITV's going to get crap figures with England on the other side. Likewise when ITV showed the England games.

And i'm sure the so called 30,000 rating is for something that's on at a ridicolous hour - so of course it's going to get crap ratings! Convienently they do have a figure for waht was on any other channel at the same time.

Surprised to see Tess's name in there. The others are alright, I suppose. Not sure how they'd work with Jason Manford.

Anderson Cooper's ratings are pretty dire as well. I think they need a fresh face.

Seacrest used to share an agent with Larry King (that agent is now Piers Morgan's manager) and has been the stand-in host for a few years now. He was, at least a while ago, King's personal choice of successor. He currently has to miss 2 nights a week of E News to do American Idol but I'm not sure CNN would be so happy with that situation (and he's obviously not going to give up Idol). And he'd have to give up E News altogether which seems unlikely as he has a great relationship with that channel (who have really backed his production company).

Anderson Cooper is considered a replacement for Katie Couric if she doesn't renew her contract with CBS News, he does segments on 60 Minutes so it's not a surprise that CBS are interested in him.

Ryan Seacrest have so many commitments, I'm surprised he's still standing, I think he would give up the radio shows if he were to become Larry King's replacements.

Piers Morgan can do interviews as shown on Life Stories and his BBC shows but the question is would American audiences be willing to watch him on a nightly basis and more importantly can he improve on King's ratings as CNN has struggled against FOX News and MSNBC.

I wouldn't be surprised.

I'l take it with a grain of salt before Jason Manford was announced, the Sun speculated on nearly every male presenter and got it wrong.

Tonight should do better hitting past 2.6m+, as its on at 9pm and i dont think theres any football tonight.

Excellent rating for the match yesterday - second most watched non-England broadcast of the tournament so far. The Bill was very close to its lowest ever rating yesterday.

Excellent for the match last night, that peak is huge for a non england game!!

Btw the BB was with +1 yes?

And Piers Morgan slates Alan carr for having low ratings when he gets 2.3m on ITV! Alan Carr gets around 1.7m on C4 at a later time, Piers is deluded.

I think it is because last week Bushmill's ratings included +1 so I suppose it'll include +1 this week.

In fairness, Morgan was comparing the ratings of his chatshow to Alan Carr's show, not a repeat of his documentary. He did exaggerate when he said Life Stories gets 3 times more, though. On average, it's more like 2-2.5x more (for his latest series at least). But what seems obvious is that Piers doesn't understand that the vast majority of viewers tuning into Life Stories are for the guest, not him!

Thanks for the update. Do you know when the missing BBC1, BBC2 and ITV1HD numbers will be updated?

Piers' show was a repeat last night. New episodes of his travel show get about 3.5-4m usually. Alan Carr only gets 1.7m when he is on after Big Brother, and was barely above 1m for his run earlier in the year, which I think is where Piers got his 'three times as many viewers' remark from. I'm not condoning what Piers said as whilst I do actually like him he should stop slating people every week in his column, but I can see where he got that information from, even if he has twisted it a bit.

Ahh i see, but didnt piers Life Stories air after some really big ITV puller in the last series, of course he would get a higher rating with a bigger lead in.
yeah i dont think saying 3x more is fair coming from him, ITV is ITV, C4 is C4. Its liek comparing the ratings for the C4 news to the BBC1 at 10pm news, completely different times and channel.

Thanks Bushmills/rzt.

Superb for the match yesterday - over 10m peak is brilliant. ITV did poor - as expected really though, it was a Tuesday after all.

EDIT: Note - BB's rating includes +1, 2.43m last night compared to 2.47m last week.

Does anyone know what the repeat of Miranda got on BBC2 last night at 10:00, it did really well in the ratings on first showing, so wondered if its the sort of series which would repeat well?

if it comes earlier, I'll let you guys know

That's alright considering it was a repeat.

Any idea how the first World Cup game did yesterday on ITV (inc HD) at 2:30pm? It went on until 6pm as it went into penalties.

Thanks Thats not a bad rating at all really when you consider the fact that many comedy shows on BBC2 fail to bring that on first showing! It's on at 9:00 next week so i wonder how it will do then?
