The reaction doesn't look particularly good in the Identity thread, not many comments tonight, and its criticism from those that have. Under 4m tonight, probably.

An early win for Brucie in this year's ratings battle with ITV then?

No doubt he'll be circulating a briefing note among the press pack if so...

I always thought that Brucie was better when he did a recorded programme and wish he would do one more before he retires, as all this live tv/dodery I am not/what camera am I on/hurry up/we're running out of time stuff on SCD is ruining his legacy.

We haven't had one for a while, so here's an idea for an ITV schedule for this autumn. Starting from the week beginning 30th of August and working on the basis that The Bill will be finishing on the 31st with The X Factor launching on 4th September (Sat/Sun).

Mondays - 9pm:
Downton Abbey (30/8 to 11/10 - 7 episodes)
Whitechapel (18/10 to 01/11 - 3 episodes)
A Bouquet of Barbed Wire (08/11 - 3 episodes stripped)
I'm A Celebrity (15/11 to 29/11 - 3 weeks)
DCI Banks (06/12 & 13/12 - 2 episodes)
Benidorm (20/12 - Christmas Special)

Tuesdays - 8 & 9pm
Trevor McDonald, Stephen Tomkinson, other factual & WWTBAM until I'm A Celebrity starts. A Bouquet Of Barbed Wire on the 9th of November. Then 3 episodes of Poirot from the 6th to 21st of December (8-10pm).

Wednesdays - 8 & 9pm:
Champions League, Pride of Britain Awards, A Bouquet Of Barbed Wire, I'm A Celebrity and Marple.

Thursdays - 9pm:
Long Lost Family (02/09 to 07/10 - 6 episodes)
Law & Order: London (14/10 to 11/11 & 09/12 & 16/12 - 7 episodes)
I'm A Celebrity (18/11 to 02/12 - 3 weeks)

Fridays - 9pm
Paul O'Grady (03/09 to 12/11 - 11 episodes)
I'm A Celebrity (19/11 to 03/12)
I'm A Celebrity Reunion (10/12)
U Be Dead (17/12)

Sundays - 9pm:
The Little House (05/09 & 12/09 - 2 episodes)
71 Degrees North (19/09 to 06/11 - 8 episodes)
I'm A Celebrity (13/11 to 05/12 - 4 episodes)
Preview of new January series (12/12 - after X Factor)

Obviously that relies (very heavily!) on the idea that 71 Degrees North will be any good!

With the exception of Piers Morgan, I have no idea what they're putting after X Factor on Saturday nights.

One-offs like Joe Maddison's War & Albert's Memorial can air in the days immediately before Christmas.

The thing to remember about Heartbeat is that it went to the low 4ms against stronger opposition than BBC1 put up last night. So while it did well, it's inflated from lack of opposition. Coronation Street did poorly - probably down to no promotion of the change of night. Taggart benefited from BBC1's laziness, and Don't Stop Believing did reasonably.

I really like that schedule C14E. It makes best use of everything they have and ensures it can all acheive its maximum potential audience. I really like you're idea of 71 Degrees North on Sunday with Downton Abbey on Monday. Whilst it was said last year that Downton would take the Sunday slot ITV are changing their plans all the time lately and what you've done is better. Monday is great, Tuesday is as good as it's going to get, Wednesday is good, as is Thursday. I don't like IAC disrupting Law & Order but ti seems inevitable unless Long Lost Relatives can start a couple of weeks earlier. Although the L&O episodes are standalone so it'd probably do fine anyway. Paul O'Grady is a cert for Fridays.

I think the weekend entertainment schedule is the same as last year except with The Cube running in Family Fortunes' Sunday slot and Push The Button running alongside the auditions. Don't know what's happening with Family Fortunes (although it has definitely been recommissioned) but it could easily squeeze in at 6:45pm before TV Burp on Saturdays. Holding some back until next year would be helpful too as Saturdays were thin on content in Q1 this year. I assume Piers Morgan is keeping his post-X Factor Saturday slot although I'd be tempted to move it back to Sunday and try something new on Saturday. Life Stories is definitely happening this Autumn though as Applause Store are starting to book next month.

Long Lost Family has Tuesday nights written all over it, with the travelogues more likely to take the Thursday 9pm slot.

I love this. Would be a relatively strong Autumn for ITV I think.

Have they said how long Life Stories will be? 6 episodes seems to be the usual run but they've got at least 15 weeks (maybe more) to fill and I'm A Celebrity will only take 3 of those.

I think that is possible. Aside from 71 Degrees (which I think has a chance), none of the other factual stuff sounds like it will do too well.

I think the travelogues are probably more in keeping with Tuesdays factual output whereas Long Lost Family is more formatted. I think ITV will want to give it the best chance they can (it's from Wall To Wall - Who Do You Think You Are) to make it a returning series.
