Festivals

A place to chat about the music festivals you have been to/are going to over the years.

I'm thinking of going to a festival in the future, which are the best ones? Also, do ticket prices vary?

Radio 1's big weekend is more appealing to me. Me and you share very smilar tastes in music Mimicole but it's not up to me to decide for you but that could be appealing to you too.

Would love to go to that in the near future.

I missed BW. It was in maidstone last year and I had no idea! I was gutted as it is about 20 minutes from me.

I'm thinking that V would probably appeal to me the most but I'm not sure about the lineup this year, so I'm thinking of going next year. do the tickets go on sale roughly the same time every year?

Mainstream festivals (Glasto, V, Leeds, TITP etc) all come in at around the £150-£200 mark. But some festivals can be as little as £40 for the whole weekend. Of course the cheaper the festival, the less big bands there will be, but if you're not bothered whether you're seeing Blur or Spur (made that up btw ) then it is very reasonable.

A lot of people my age rave about the reading festival but then if i am honest, the majority of those people who rave don't like the mainstream commericial music like me. So maybe not.

^ Looking at the reading line up. Paramore are playing, my favourite. but no one else there I'm a massive fan of so that one's out of the question.

Reading's line up this year is shockingly bad. Glasto was probably the best this year.

I've been to V and that's a fun festival.

Is V the same time every year?

Also, I'm assuming there is more than one stage...Does that annoy people? Having to move about to see your favourite artists?

Yea, same weekend usually. Moving between stages isn't really a problem, they are all pretty close together. The hard thing is deciding which bands to see, because some of them clash.

this was my thought. If they are quite close together can you not hear someone else's set too?

Not really, the music is so loud from the stage you are on, that you probably wouldn't here another stage. I didn't anyway

Ahh right. Am I right in saying that V is in Chelmsford?

Yes, Chelms or Staffordshire. I went to Staffs in 08, and I would advise everyone to stick to Chelmsford. The weather at the Staffordshire site was appalling. It didn't ruin the weekend, but it was cold a rainy, and I would have much preferred some sun.

Bare in mind that the Chelmsford tickets sell out a LOT faster than the Staffordshire ones.

I take it chelmsford has the more mainstream artists?

No they both have the same line up, with the artists playing one on the saturday and one on the sunday.

Oh so V is one day then? I assumed it was 2.

It's 2 days. One group of artists play the Southern site on the saturday/one group play the Northen site on the Saturday...then they swap. So say Muse headline the saturday night at chelmsford, they would then travel to Staffordshire and headline there on the sunday.
