Is the iPhone the the best and the most popular mobile phone?

I have never used or had an iPhone but it seems where ever you go you cannot avoid hearing about it these days. So is this the best phone out at the moment? What makes this phone so good?

You should try one to see why. Android phones are also good as well like the HTC Desire.

These smartphone are just a lot smarter, powerful, have apps, music players, web browsers, gaming devices, email devices, and most importantly is focused on the phone software, so every few months or every year the same handset can feel like a brand new handset because of the new software.

The iPhone in particular is a joy to use. It is so intuitive and the touchscreen is so fast and responsive that it really set the standard for all future phones. The first iPhone blew me away, there was nothing like it at the time. Now with Google and HTC catching up the mobile phone space is a lot better than it was say 4 years ago.

It is great, yes. I dont think there is one single GREAT phone, hence why people prefer one over the other - they all do different things for different people. I was a devoted HTC user and now have the iPhone4 because the lack of updates, lag and general sluggishness of Android got a bit too much to handle. Its great for those who like to tinker and have everything exactly how they want it, however I now prefer to go and send a message or listen to a song or make a call straight away without any faffing.

Different strokes for different folks, eh!

Thanks for the replys.

When you put music and movies on it, can it be your own stuff that you have on your PC? Also do the music and movies have to be listened to using headphones or does the phone have speakers?

I think everyone has their own opinon on this. The best thing to do is to go down to a phone shop and have a play about with some of the models and decide for yourself. Everyone on here will tell you something different.

The iphone has it's own speaker so you don't have to listen to it with headphones. Yes you can put your own movies and music onto the phone providing it is in the right format, but even if it is not there are plenty of free software programs available that will allow you to convert your media to an iphone compatible format.

What difference does it make? People earn money to spend how they please - its not like theres an iPhone tax that you are required to pay. I will never understand the snobbery towards people who choose to spend their own hard earned money on something like a phone or a laptop or a new tv.

Probably a combination of SIM-free and subsidised by contracts I would have thought. The bulk of those sold in the US would have been on contract with AT&T.

24 month contracts with products on a 12 month lifecycle doesn't quite work, does it?

It means that people (specifically major fanbois) either have to skip a generation or pay through the nose to buy themselves out of a current contract to start a new 18/24 month contract .... and then ad-nauseum for as long as their finances can cope.

Its great for the operators, and its great for Apple. Not necessarily great for the finances though.

Why waste money by paying to get out of a contract? I wish I had the money to chuck around like that.

Why waste money getting a premium phone when you can buy a £10 handset and get a cheap sim only contract? One persons wasteage is another persons normal spending.

True, they don't have to do anything.

But so many people on forums all over the place were trying to figure out different ways of getting into the iPhone 4 as soon as possible, buying out of contracts, etc.

Its quite an achievement for SJ and his team to build up such a frenzy over a gadget, albeit a fairly nice one.
