Anyone tried the Luxor firmware in this DHD4000 unit!

I like your thinking Is the firmware available as a file?

Anyone know what processor the Luxor uses?

DHD-400 will have an STi5514, so no chance the firmware will run.

I have been setting manual recordings and they have been working fine. Were you trying to record something that had already started ?

No. The now and next epg just does not update when it should.

I selected a programme that was on next using the epg and it didn't record at all.

There is also recording limbo around the midnight- 1.00am period. Programmes that should be recordable in the 'Next' portion of the guide, often do not have a 'record option' showing in the guide.

I've noticed that Virgin+1 and Dave Ja Vu are now blank screens.
Anyone else finding this ?

You need to retune. Virgin1+1 is no more (made room for more Yesterday) and Dave Ja Vu is now on another multiplex or frequency.

Virgin1+1 has ceased on Freeview whilst DaveJaVu has jumped multiplex. A retune will clear these up.

I rescanned on Monday evening, to get the 'BT1/2' place names updated to read 'Sky Sports 1/2' on my Thomson DHD4000.

I noticed later that the box attempted to download the non-existant EPG for the full hour between 3.00 and 4.00am. When it had rebooted I checked the log file and it had 288 pages. It said something along the lines of 'failed to find 4TV!'.

I decided to check the now & next EPG, and logical channel number 300 has indeed gone!

With the loss of EPG AND problems with signal handling from the digital-only Mendip trasmitter, I've decided to abandon my long-time Thomson friend - after two transplants (bigger disc and new PSU capacitors), it is time to retire it.

Bought a Tesco's box - seems to have reasonable reviews - and with 400+1500 club points (worth nearly £80 after 4x-ing) seems the best deal for a while. Really looking forward to seeing HD on my new TV for the 1st time.

I'm coping ok with it. The EPG loss is a great shame but with a TV guide you can get by. Now and next updates in under 30 seconds and the manual recordings have been easy to program and have all worked so far.

I've looked at other boxes but their EPGs are poor and I want to wait for something as good as the DHD4000 before I upgrade, preferably with iPlayer and YouTube.

I rescanned for channels today, just before 11.00am, as the Angus transmitter has completed the first phase of switchover.

The DHD4000 could only find five of the multiplexes. I then tried manually searching the UHF60 frequency: nothing. I then tried removing the aerial lead, and scanned for nothing, I then tried a rescan and six multiplexes were found. The picture seems quite stable when changing channels, so far (no black-outs as others have reported).

I too want something as reliable as this box.

A few posts talk about recording manually.
I had a quick play with the box, but I couldn't see how to do this.
Can someone give me a few hints?

Go to the record list and press ok. You will need to add the channel time etc yourself.

Another week on, how have you found it? Any interference or loss of picture etc?

I'm just curious as we don't have DSO up here in the north east until December which gives me plenty of time to see other folks experiences when their time comes round. Yours was the first mention of a 4000 working fine after a step in the DSO so I'm hoping it may even be the case for others including me.....?

Well, there have been a few 'foibles', if you like:[LIST][*]Switch-on from stand-by, BBC1 is blank (no picture or sound). Switching to BBC1 from an old-style multiplex by using direct channel number buttons e.g. '1', BBC1 is blank. Channel Up & Down have no effect either. However all of these can be fixed by pressing the 'Guide' button and selecting BBC1 from the EPG. In fact, as soon as the 'picture in picture' window appears, it tunes itself in! Weird![*]The log files have been acting oddly too. Probably due to the loss of tuning ability for BBC1, but there were 540 pages of "TotUpdateTask- getting time from tuner 1(was1)".[*]And for 09/08/10 at 18:32, "CheckDownLoadStart: OAD has been missed." Never seen that one before now.[*]For 11/08/10 at 04:00, "OADS: Aborting Object Carousel Init" was on page 292 of 293 pages. Never seen that before, either.[*]When I discovered the blank BBC1, I tried a few recordings from BBC1 and 2, to see if it would work in an unattended situation. It seems to, but I don't know if I would trust it to work with Christmas Day telly.[/LIST]I suppose the proper test will be this coming Wednesday, which is doomsday for analogue.

As an aside, my old single-tuner Humax pvr8000T identifies the new 'BBC A' multiplex as being '8K'. All the others are still '2K'. It seems to work okay.

First time on here for a while, mainly to find out why the thompson had stopped updating the tvguide. Guess I know now. Bought this back in the day (it was one of the last ones in the argos that I got it from) and it's been sat quite happily underneath a tv cabinet and performed flawlessly ever since (it's my parents pvr and has been more reliable at times than my sky+!). Now it looks like it's time for a replacement.

When the EPG downloads stopped, I replaced our DHD4000 with a Topfield, and decided to retire the Thomson to a flat we own in Bath, where DSO occurred earlier this year. A £20 STB had been functioning fine there ever since.

After setting up, a retune found NO channels, but I didn't give up, having read here that it might be necessary to try again. Well, after at least TWELVE goes, it found one MUX, with a handful of channels, so I persevered, and eventually it found two MUXes, with as many Freeview channels as we get in Bath (amazingly, for a major city and tourist destination, much of it is served by a repeater transmitter that used to carry only 4 analogue channels and no digital, and still gets only about half the Freeview roster, but that's another story!)

So the moral is: if you want to use your Thomson after DSO, and it doesn't seem to work, keep trying!

We have two Thomsons, and have now got used to the idea of programming without the epg. Not as convenient, but it is still a great machine.

However, since phase two of the DSO we have been unable to get all the frequencies, and therefore all the channels. One Thomson gets up to 2 frequencies and the other gets up to 4, although this varies on both machines (the digital TV gets 6). Like Trilobite we are in Angus. What channels we do get are very poor quality, with lots of blocking and interrupted sound.


I have also noticed that even on the Panasonic DTV we get occasional blocking, and this did not happen before the DSO, except in very windy weather. We have a new aerial carefully pointed at the Dundee transmitter, although we are near the edge of its range.

We had hoped that the DSO would mean better reception, but in fact it seems worse. We are located just north of Montrose - where are you, Trilobite, and what sort of reception do you get now?

Is anyone else experiencing poorer reception since the DSO?

I posted on the technical thread about my DHD4000 not finding all the multiplexes, and having to rescan umpteen times to get them all.

The HD multiplex appears to be totally invisible to the DHD4000, as it should, so that leaves five standard definition multiplexes.

Of those, the BBC A and D3&4 multiplexes are showing as strength: 10, quality: 9.

The three COM multiplexes are showing as strength: 6 or 7, quality: 8 or 9.

The aerial is a wideband one and situated in the loft.

Do you have a masthead amplifier fitted?

Our aerial is external, fitted a few months ago, and with an internal amplifier feeding six outlets.

The best we get on the technical page is strength 6 quality 8-9. I don't know which multiplexes we are getting, but my point is that the week before the DSO we received ALL the programmes on the Thomson that we received on the DTV set, and reception was comparable between the two. Now our reception on the DTV is slightly flaky, but acceptable and we get a full list of channels (over 100), and the reception on the Thomson is very flaky with lots of blocking and only about 80 channels.

Is it possible that the changeover has so far resulted in reduced power, which will step up in due course (please!)? Is there any way we can find out if this is the case?
