Is anyone on DS experiencing problems on an Iphone 3GS using OS4?

I have searched a bit online and many are having lag issues and general bugs within certain Apps.

I am having the following issues:-

General Lag - Not major issues but noticeable.

Co-Pilot App Failed to load a couple of times. It freezes at the Co-Pilot logo and switches back to the HOME screen.

Using my Ipod - When you select "Albums" and the phone is mounted vertically (length ways), the albums are listed. When I tilt the screen orientation to Horizontal the current album is displayed but the others are not. I can no longer scroll side to side!

I have reset the phone by holding down the home & power off/on button and no change.

Looking at other sites, somebody has phoned Apple tech and they were aware that 3gs would experience problems and that the software was designed on the future/iphone 4 not the past.

Seems like they won't be in a hurry to resolve.

I had a this issue and the phone just ran crappy in general, I put 3.1.3 back on and all is fine again

no problems with lag on it yet but i tend to close any apps i have been using instead of leaving them running in the background.

I did have issues with Co Pliot, its failed to load and also corrupted the data.

As yet not had anyother issues with the update.

Can't say I've noticed any issues... seems to be as fast as it always was.... saying that I don't use the muti-tasking option much as there doesn't seem to be much benefit to it at the minute. Might start to use it more when the app developers start to take advantage of it.

Anyone had the ipod issue?

That's the biggest issue that is bothering me.

No problems for me either (touch wood)

Could the issue with Co Pilot be a compatability problem? I've had issues loading a couple of apps since the update. Have been really missing the Movie Genie app but an update came through today and now itws working again.

My iPod would get stuck in landscape, i'd have to quit iPod to get it out

I have seen a really strange problem on an iPhone 3g over the last week since upgrading to iOS4. The battery meter sometimes goes crazy and bears no relation to the actual battery level. Sometimes it stays frozen. Sometimes it doesn't move during a charge. Sometimes it just plummets. There is nothing wrong with this battery and it was fine before iOS4. It shows the true level after a reboot.

Not noticed this issue on the 3GS, just on the 3G. Anyone seen anything similar?

As I finger through the menus, they move in a jumpy way to begin with, then after 2 seconds, it becomes more fluid.

The open apps zoom animation is very jumpy. The close apps zoom animation is fine.

On many occasions, I will type on the keyboard and nothing will appear. Then, 4 letters appear instantly, along with a deep click sound.

There is an update for Co Pliot in the app store. Haven't tried it yet as im updating now but should hopefully work without corrupting or crashing now.

I'm sorry but that is complete bullcrap.


I'm not experiencing any issues at the moment, perhaps a slight issue when the network switches from GPRS to 3G and vice versa.


There will be, as with any OS update. The apps I use have all been updated to work with iOS4, but even the older apps do seem to be working OK for me.


Speed wise its faster than 3.1.3 for me.


Have you downloaded the latest update from the App Store? Always, always make sure your apps are updated. Failing that, uninstall and reinstall the app. If its any consolation, CoPilot hasn't crashed on me while I've been using iOS4.

Yeah, cheers Apple for giving us multitasking, folders, and a host of other updates. Typical to screw us over!!

Angry Birds is a bit laggy now on my 3GS.

This has been resolved. I synced the phone to Itunes again and in general things have improved. Don't ask me how..



I take your point that they are giving us updates and it's free but when you have major issues on something you use all the time it can be frustrating. If you had any of the issues would you feel the same? I doubt it...

Now, if you re read that thread, it is talking about the iPhone 3G rather than the 3GS and yes, the 3G hardware is at the very limit of being powerful enough to run the OS, hence why multitasking and wallpapers have been disabled in the 3G build. The 3GS suffers none of these issues as the processor and memory are sufficient enough to power the OS correctly.

It certainly wasn't designed to be compatible with the iPhone 4 only, otherwise the OS would not support the 3GS's screen resolution.



I meant I don't have any major issues, but the phone is slightly slower at remembering a 3G signal is available.


Then perhaps a restore is in order rather than an in place upgrade.


One thing I never do is an os upgrade, I always clean install, which I can only assume is the difference between my fully working ios4 3GS and your not working very well ios4 3GS.

Things have improved since I synced the device again. Thanks for the tip on going for the clean install. Something I'll bear in mind for the future.

The iOS4 upgrade is nowhere near as bad as some media outlets are making it out to be. I have at least 8 or 9 contacts with iPhone 3G/3GS's and all of the upgrades have been successful, bar one, who has an intermittant battery issue.

The reason I don't do upgrades is the same reason I don't do them on the PC. I can't stand the procedure and the sheer amount of leftovers from going from Windows 2000 to Windows XP, or 98 to XP for example. I much prefer to do a clean install so that I know the OS is as it was intended.

I have heard of various issues with the 3G after the iOS4 upgrade, and most have been solved with doing a restore install rather than an upgrade.

Hi dontpannic, I have the 3gs, how do you do a clean install? And can I re-do it when I have already upgraded? I am having issues when I listen to anything using the speaker, it is a lot quieter than it used to be. There are a number of threads online with other people suffering the same problem, has it affected you?

Instead of clicking 'check for updates' in iTunes, click Restore.

Bear in mind that unless you make a manual backup you will lose everything on your phone (SMS etc).

I have a 3G and have been experiencing many problems since upgrade- I kept getting blank emails dated 1/1/1970 for a start. I did a settings restore on the phone and a hard reboot and that seemed to sort the problem but now I frequently can't make calls out- they don't seem to connect so I have to turn the phone off and on again and when I get calls in the slider sticks so the call won't answer or it just turns itself off so I get the Apple logo.

I would like to go back to the old OS or do a restore but I have many SMS messages from an ex that I don't want to lose and I don't know how to back-up everything manually (I'm not very techy).....

There should still be a backup in iTunes that you did before upgrading to OS4, Only message you would lose would be from this week or when you upgraded to OS4

I was having problems with my 3G, the slider was sticking when trying to unlock the phone and also it was dropping calls occasionally, I downloaded the new os and that seems to have solved those problems, but now the phone is 'crashing' and going back to the apple logo, it takes about 2-3 minutes for the phone to come back on and everything seems ok. its happening at least once a day. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing it and if I restored back to the old os would the problems I had before return?
