Latest figures reveal that the singer's new single 'California Gurls' has become the most played song in a week.

According to Billboard, DJs can't get enough of the 25-year-old's latest offering, as they played the song out 11,816 times last week - an average of 90 plays per station.

And she will be number 1 again next week!

I thought Lady gaga had it for Romance but records get beaten all the time

Go katy. I am glad she will not be forever known for that Kissed a girl song. It's so cheesy and not her at all whenever i hear it now.

Not exactly an achivement, just because the readio majorly overplay a song dosen't make it any more better. Personally Hot & Cold, Ur So Gay, THinking Of You, I Kissed A gIrl, Thinking Of You and the rest of her album are far superior.

Well done? what has she actually done?

All this means is that her record company has managed to get her record played to death everywhere at the expense of young up and coming bands who get no airplay at all.

Its bullshit.

It is the most plays ever on POP radio, not all radio (the other big ones are Rhythmic and Urban)...

Obviously not for the most audience impressions! No one will ever touch Mariah's We Belong Together.

No song has crossed 150 million audience impressions, since T.I. last 2 number 1s. Mariah holds the record at 220 million.

Plays matter, cos obviously more people will hear it. The chart however is calculated on how many people hear it...i.e audience impressions!

She will easily be number 1 for a good few more weeks tbh...killing it on sales and airplay

Yes they are, they vary how much each matter! Pretty much 60/40 one way for a few yrs then the other..related to the market!

You also have streaming, which counts a little too!

No, it is cheating. It means that record companies can get their acts into the top of the charts and therefore on the radio playlists.

Its all a big con and always has been.

they should just make it downloads like us. That's probally why you don't get any of the dance, pop music in thier charts anymore because radios are overplaying songs that they want to chart really high.

What's with everyone congratulating her? She hasn't done anything.

It's no wonder her new song has been such a huge hit when she's had so much airplay, not to mention her huge popularity at the moment because of her personal life, and the fact that she's performed the song at several major award ceremonies recently.

She's virtually unstoppable at the moment in a commercial sense.

she has wrote a good catchy song, she's not claiming its supposed to have meaning, its just s "fun summer ditty", so well done katy, if it was rubbish it wouldn't get played.
