Today I purchased one of those posh, latest flat-screen TV jobs, and it works great, all the channe's, DVD player works, all good.

however - it wont recognize my VHS (video tape player) as in video tapes - my video cable is connected into the new flatscreen, but wont pick up and recognize it.

anyone got any tips please, I dont have the faintest idea how to resolve this?

thanks

have you connected the video to the tv with a scart cable?

Make sure the scart cable is firmly plugged in place on both the tv and the video. If not the signal will not reach the tv. Scart cables are a horrific design and depending one which one you buy and the build quality of the sockets, the scart plug can be pulled out by half way when putting the video machine back on the shelf (eg, moving it around).

Thanks mate it worked.

it's weird though, because my previous TV never needed the scart cable, my old TV would recognize my video with no scart, just the main cable.

it's weird our some TV's work ah?

That's probably because your old TV was tuned to the VCR using its analogue tuner...you've probably tried to tune your new TV using its digital (Freeview) tuner...if it has an analogue tuner it should also be capable of being tuned as well, although connection by scart is far superior.

Yea the main cable is about the worst way of hooking up the vcr, it was the original "hack" solution before tv's had av inputs. While vcr is cr@p quality in general, that way of hookup was the worst way.
