Yes they are different. We use PAL I, Spain uses PAL B,G. The main difference is the spacing of the sound carrier from the vision carrier. We use 6 MHz, Spain uses 5.5 MHz.Depending on the design of the set it is usually possible to convert it. A decent dealer will be able to advise. Bear in mind if it is a stereo TV you won't get that to work in the UK as Spanish sets aren't generally fitted with NICAM decoders.

Yes and no...
Spanish TVs like most of Europe use a different sound transmission system from the one used on the UK. The UK uses the PAL I system. So using a SCART socket by passing the tuner is the right thing to do. The only other country using the same system as the UK is Hong Kong. |

Anyways, one way around the problem is to use Freeview , another is to use a UK spec NICAM VCR connected via SCART

Some TVs have hidden engineering setup menus where you can switch between standards.
My Sony can pick up any PAL sound carrier. Which model of LG is it? Phil |

Yes - Ireland adopted the UK standard of PAL "I" 625 lines as a matter of convenience in the late sixties (I think), mainly because of cross border reception issues, although VHF is also still used in some areas.
But most of the rest of the world which uses PAL doesn't use the "I" standard. UK engineers ( ie the BBC and ITA) reckoned that "I" gave better results than the other PAL derivatives. |
