I was just wondering today when looking at billboard.com, what kind of dance music is made in America? Because I can't remember really hearing any "dance" songs from there.

Like there are loads of European DJs making/who have made electro house, techno, trance etc songs and in the UK (I'm not sure about the rest of the world) we have drum and bass and bassline and dubstep and stuff like that.

But I never really hear anything I would class as dance music coming from America, not that I can think of anyway, unless it has a European DJ producing it, like David Guetta.

Their dance chart has mostly what I would class as pop songs in it as well and RnB, which the exception of a few David Guetta songs, like no.1 atm is Alejandro, I woudn't class Alejandro as a dance song at all

So I was just wondering do they have dance music produced in the US, but we just don't get to hear it? Or do they play European dance music in their clubs? Or is it just RnB and stuff?

I think remixes are probably the most important factor. Like you said Alejandro and pop & R&B songs seem to fill the Billboard Dance chart but rather than the originals it's due to dance remixes.

People like Mariah, Whitney, Madonna, Deborah Cox have all had umpteen #1s on the Billboard dance chart, and they have had some really iconic dance remixes from the last 20 years or so.

The popularity of Eurobeat tracks in R&B is only a very recent thing, and other than that original dance music from the US seems to cater specifically to the gay club.

Oh so is there is no mainstream original dance music then?

I'm just curious really as I've never been to America so the only music I hear from their is stuff in the UK charts and stuff I youtube after seeing it in their charts.

I haven't actually heard american dance music. But it doesn;t seem commericially successful in the charts over there. Especially considering how artists like Kylie, Robyn and Cascada haven't been hugely successful over there. It seems bigger here. But that's how i see it. Unless it is successful.

Cheers for that

Some of that is really good, does it never go mainstream? Like you know how in the UK Calvin Harris, Chase and Status, David Guetta etc can get to number one, does music like that ever get in the charts in the US or is it always underground?

All contemporary dance music came from America

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_music

The billboard is about most sold, as someone else mentioned Mariah and Madonna are always gonna sell well.
This is something that was never gonna sell well.
