For me it was around September/October 2003 for the following reasons:

* Dirty Den's return.
* Little Mo being raped again - how much pain can one woman suffer in the space of two years.
* The pathetic "Who shot Phil Part 2" story-line. Den made Lisa give it up, and that was as explosive as opening a crisp packet.
* Sam Mitchell's "I can take everyone on" approach - Can't this woman suffer instead of Little Mo was my reaction then.
* The damn Ferrira family.

Almost nine months on, nothing has got better at all. I think the biggest joke was the Christmas sing-a-long special. Its something Belarussian TV would have, and it really cheapened the show to a very bad level.

Even before September, my interest was waning - that hunt for a condom was just pathetic! - I am sure there is bound to a few shops in the East End of London that stock condoms in. No wonder the pregnancy rate is high.

The stupid Den vs. Phil storyline among other things.

i haven't lost faith, as it's only a tv programme and really not that an intrinsic part of my life! It still mostly entertains me and if i'm not enjoying a storyline, i don't watch it for a bit as has always been the case with any programme i watch. i can't believe people get so het up about it, but it makes for good discussion forums

I still watch it cos old habits die hard. The Ferrerias aren't that bad now that Dan has gone. I think it has gone downhill, I liked DD return, but now that he's back it's not quite so interesting.

I think we've lost a lot of good characters recently, like it's been said, it's only a programme, I am sure it wilkl eventually pick up and be riveting stuff.

All the things you mention Neily, I agree with.

I think the low point was Mo's second rape. That, and the Phil/Den robbery were the real low points, and it has never recovered.

For me my interest seriously went downhill in late 2002, just after Trevor's death I think. Then we had Jamie's death and Billy and Mo's wedding which was truly dire I thought. 2003 it fully became dreadful, particularly with Dennis and all this shooting nonsense. It's only got increasingly worse. The 2 episodes I've enjoyed in that period were Den's comeback (stupid as it was) and Janine's exit. That's it.

But it's only in the last month I've finally decided to stop watching (except for once or twice every fortnight). You keep watching out of habit, hoping things will improve and thinking you might miss something if you switch off, but enough has been enough. As I said, I'll switch on an episode here and there to check what's happening and if it looks like improving or if there's a massive story, but otherwise I'm just not bothered anymore.

Emmerdale and Corrie are good enough for me not to worry about it anyway..

I begun to lose faith in the soap during the beginning of 2003!

Before then i refused to believe that the soap was going downhill and nearly (expect on a few occasions) everytime someone here complained about the soap i was always one of the first (or last) to dispute that.

Boy, do times change or what!

i havent lost much faith in eastenders, but i hate it when they keep on killing off characters every month. i see more people die in eastenders than on the news.... apart from 9/11.

I lost faith when I first read that Janine was leaving, but had slowly been losing interest since about Summer 2002 (prob around the time the Ferraras arrived). The producers need to learn that they can't just introduce us to a load of new people, leave them with no storyline until January 2004 and expect people to just like them.

It was round about the time of Jamie's death, I suddenly noticed I was missing episodes and not caring one way or the other, it was starting to become an effort to watch it.
