Skippy the DVD player
I bought a Sharp DV620H DVD player about six months ago and seem to be suffering from skipping, jumping and pausing when watching DVD's. It happens on about 70% of the DVD's I watch. I'm just trying to assess whether this is to be expected, or whether I might have a dodgy player.

Has the disks you used got any marks on them (on the bottom -data- side)?
As I used to have a DVD player that made marks on the DVDs, which in time made the disks un-useable. |

Most of the disks are rented from the local video shop, so they are not in 'perfect condition'. I tried running one of the really jumpy disks on my PC and it worked fine, which leads me to believe it may be the player. Are some players more sensitive to scratches/marks than others ?

However some good manufacturers take care, and really do ensure that the components inside stay where they are - firmly. Whereas with others, even if you just hit it sightly - all hell break loose for the disk inside! |

The next time you play a dvd, try just hitting the player *slightly* and see whether anything happens to the player. If not, then it looks like all of the components inside are firmly in place. If otherwise, I think you already know what this means.
