Who will headline Glastonbury in 2011?
With Glastonbury over for another year, festival organiser Michael Eavis has already been quoted on nme.com saying that he has 3 'really good headliners' booked next year. Who do you think they'll be? Here's my guesses:
Elbow - maybe not big enough, but the Eavises often take chances on big bands and give them the chance to see if they can pull off a headline spot (Coldplay, Kings of Leon). They're apparently one of Emily's favourite bands as well, and have a new album in the pipeline, so I think they could be in the running for the Friday night headline spot. Kylie - I just think it's make sense as she was there with the Scissor Sisters this year; maybe she was approached about headlining next year while she was there? It would be nice to see her there after she had to cancel last time IMO. Radiohead - Again, 2 of them played a 'secret slot' this year so could well have been approached. They're also friends of the festival and I believe they have new material on the way too. U2 would be the obvious ones, but somehow I can't see it... I expect they will play at some point, but would they do it next year? I doubt they'll be touring so probably not IMO. Coldplay could be in with a shout as well, and there's always the chance of a totally unexpected act headlining, like we've seen before with Gorillaz and Jay-Z. |

Well, I very much doubt she'll headline - but Gaga will probably play high up the billing.
She surprised a lot of people (in more than one way ) with how well she did last year, and that was only with 4 hits. She's basically doubled her fame and hits since, and by this time next year she'll be onto her next album with inevitably more. The whole of Glasto singing Bad Romance would be incredible/ridiculous.I reckon Kylie would be a good idea. She could most certainly dominate the other stage like the Pet Shop Boys did. If Gaga played before her, that would be a fantastic line-up and attract a similar crowd. I can imagine U2 playing. It kind of seems like a no brainer after this year, although personally I'm not fussed with them. I wouldn't be surprised if the Black Eyed Peas played at some point either, depending on when their next album comes out. |

Kylie would be a terrible headline act - she's not a musician for a start!

I also imagine that teh Faces with Hucknel on vocals will feature on the bill, and *if* they can get Rod on board they would get elevated to Sunday Night headline PDQ |

Headliners next year will probably be something like U2, Radiohead, Kings Of Leon, and, if there is a god out there, with stupendous amounts of money, Led Zeppelin. That would just be the best thing ever. |

Glastonbury is about diversity as much as it is credible music acts, hence why theres artists of every type and genre on the billing which all go down very well. Honestly, some music fans are so needlessly pretentious. |

And so any other vocalists who perform at Glastonbury also dont deserve a place on the billing? How ridiculous

Asked whether he would like U2 to appear in the future, he replied: "This is an ongoing conversation for next year." The Edge "enjoyed the experience" of performing Where The Streets Have No Name with Muse on the Pyramid Stage, he said. But the band may be taking a break next summer and the festival is having a year off in 2012, Mr Eavis added. "So who knows? It might be three years' time |

*coughs, splutters* No way. Glast wouldn't touch BEP for headlining with a bargepole. The dance tent, maybe, but headlining? It would never happen.

That would just be the best thing ever. I'm not entirely sure if Kylie would be a good fit for Glastonbury, but she could deliver a lot of crowd pleasing sing-a-longs which could be the antidote to often straight forward band sets. Gaga worked because she brought a bit of glam rock and roll to her pop act, so it wasn't simply karaoke with the crowd. I don't ever see Gaga or Kylie headlining the Pyramid, they're just not 'cool' enough and I don't imagine anyone picking them over the likes of Kings of Leon/U2/Led Zeppelin etc. who are acts the crowd want as headliners of a music festival. |

I didn't say the BEP would or should headline, I said I wouldn't be surprised if they played at some point. Though, I can see them headlining the Other Stage. They have a large following and a lot of hits behind them - only the recent ones have been dance/electro infused. If Jay Z and Snoop Dogg can do it, they can.

Radiohead and Coldplay both have albums out soonish, so they are possibilitys. U2 is likely as well. Linkin Park also have an album out soon, but Im not sure if they are big enough / the right kind of act.

Ah right, I think I misunderstood. Again, I reckon BEP could do the other stage, not the pyramid though. I just don't see it happening.
I think the only way the BEP would headline the Pyramid is if they couldn't find a headling band and didn't want to pull in the usuals again (Coldplay, Muse etc.). I think headlining T in the Park would be more their scene. |

Sorry but 'Kylie would be a terrible headline act - she's not a musician for a start!' doesnt exactly scream positivity nor appreciation for a traditionally non Glasto-friendly act like Kylie. My eyes are up date with a full MOT but cheers for the concern!

Black Eyed Peas actually played Glasto last year - headlining the Jazz World Stage (now West Holts). They've also played the Pyramid Stage before, but not headlining; personally I doubt they'd ever get the top billing.
And to all those who say Kylie isn't worthy of headlining a festival - don't forget she was booked to headline in 2005 but pulled out due to her cancer. I'm sure her headlining now would be a fantastic and emotional show, and although I generally prefer more guitar-based acts, I think she could pull off a really good show! |

Maybe they'll go 'controversial' like they did with Jay Z and get someone like Kanye West or Eminem?

I thiink U2 (obviously) Radiohead > they've got an album out soonish Coldplay > I think they're recording and haven't done Glasto in a while but somehow I can't see Radiohead and Coldplay headlining at the same time Kings Of Leon > they've got an album coming out soon but they do tend to play alot of festivals so maybe they'll take a bit of a breather next year Kylie > Outside chance, was supposed to headline one year but dropped out. Kasabian> getting bigger and bigger, finishing up their new album aswell other possible contenders > Florence + The Machine, Dizzee Rascal, The White Stripes, The Arcade Fire |
