How do you know if your mobile phone is unlocked?
Hi
I have 3 month old HTC Desire and I’m looking to sell it. I need to know how I find out whether the phone is unlocked or locked. I got Phone from CPW and nowhere on phone does it say Orange. I thought normally if is phone locked to network it would have the logo of the network somewhere on the phone? Is that correct? Thanks |

Oh come on,
It's hardly difficult is it? There's no other way you can tell.Just order some free PAYG ones from any other provider's website if you don't have one/can't try a friend/family member's. |

My Desire is externally unbranded, but the bootup logo is O2. This only indicates that it's branded though.
To see if it's unlocked, borrow someone else's sim card or get a free one from "3" or O2. |

I maybe wrong but if you go to select network manually rather than automatic, you may be able to tell. The reason I think this is because on my BB bold on O2 I could manually select any network (meaning the phone is unlocked) but on my friends Nokia on T-Mobile, she could not do this (presumably meaning it is locked).
Someone please correct me if I am talking gibberish!

If you bought the phone from CPW it is highly likely the phone will be unlocked as the vast majority of their stock is sim free phones which they then simply provide a sim card for the network of the customers choice.
Only way to know for sure though is as others have said to stick a sim for another network into it and see if it works |

It probably is unlocked, the CPW tend to sell them that way.
