I bought a 3GS from eBay in the US, got the phone today and updated to 4.0, but rather than saying O2 it says AT&T, why is this? I have restored but no good. Anyone any ideas? I have uploaded a screen shot.

That's strange... Don't they normally say "you could have bought a much better phone for a lot less on a much cheaper tariff, sucker!"

I don't know how it was unlocked, I can make calls on it and send messages, however it just says AT&T, maybe its not unlocked correctly? It is not jailbroken.

It shouldn't say AT&T even if it's locked to AT&T.

What does the phone say in Settings > Carrier?

And Settings > General > About

I used to have my old iPhone 3G saying AT&T with an O2 sim card in it. It was jailbroken and I had some app called MakeItMine which allowed me to put whatever in place of the network carrier name.

Wow, you are super cool. Shame that sentence makes absolutely no sense. Still, don't let that stop you.
