Anyway, does anyone else think Night At The Opera was awesome? I know I said earlier that I couldn't pick a favourite, but this thread got me in the mood for listening to them again, so I did this album, and it's just SO DAMN GOOD!

"awesome/favourite" -- well, it gets 5 stars on AMG, so "their best" seems likely. I'd guess that none of their albums feature highly in any "top x greatest of all time" lists though. FTR I own I, III & IV.

Bit of an unfair comment. Tons of good post PW material.

I like Queen best for Killer Queen, but my next fave song of theirs, Good Old-Fashioned Loverboy, is rarely played.

I agree with the opening reference to It's A Hard Life, and always feel like laughing when Freddie sings with great fanfare "I don't want my freedom .... "

Awesome hardly describes it. Along with Day at the Races it is, IMO, one of the very greatest, most ambitious rock/pop records ever made. Yes, it's pretentious but the immense musicality and creativity of Mercury and May carry it off. The sheer variety of music genres it covers is astonishing and no other group could've written anything like it.

Roger Taylor and Brian May were on BBC Breakfast this morning discussing a new Queen documentary, including previously unseen footage. Apparently their first TOTP performance from 1974, which was thought to be have been lost, was found on the end of a tape of the Dick Emery Show, in someone's attic!

Documentary starts Sunday at 10pm, concludes Monday night.

Why does no one like Hot Space? I thought it was great.

Have all their albums and love them all equally. Look up Freddie Nelson on youtube BTW any Queen fans. If Queen was to ever get someone who could relive Freddie's singing they should get him. When he sings songs that arnt even like Queen songs its really like Freddie himself is singing them.

There are very few singers who can pull off Freddie's work as a vocalist. I'll give this guy a look in a while, it sounds promising.

Stalker!

That could be very good, I'll be keeping an eye out.

Did your Dad enjoy the performance? I would've loved to have seen Freddie live.

*Father Ted Quote time* "We have to stop meeting like this"

There's so much coming out this year being their 40th anniversary, I was thinking of buying their albums last year but now I can get them remastered instead

Dad LOVED it, he paid £25 for his Live Aid ticket and said he would have gladly paid £100 + for Queen's performance alone. I don't think it is possible to get bored of Radio Gaga from that day

Father Ted, Queen, Madonna & MJ Appreciation Group.

I can't wait to have them all remastered either. I hope they'll sound great.

Your DaDa is so lucky. I'm actually jealous of a person I've never heard of!

For coming up with that awesome idea, you along with Sir Pinder can share the award for most awesome DS member

That sounds like quite an achievement At least he never saw Bob Marley, so he didn't get it all his own way. Now I think of it, he saw MJ on his birthday as well the jammy little...

Dahling, I'm already the most awesome.

I just looked back on my post and realised I said ''DaDa''.
I'm listening to Born This Way at the moment, I had no idea! Sorry.

MJ on his birthday? Is he lying to you?

You're not alone- Hot Space is one of my favourites! I love how it's so disco compared to their other works. My other favourite is Sheer Heart Attack.

I'm sitting with my 13 year old daughter, watching a Queen gig from 1975 on BBC2. I wasn't at this gig but I did see them on this tour. My daughter is very envious & is complaining that she was born too late.
welshyyyyy

i love hot space too, especially when they did some of the stuff live on the tour like staying power, much better than the record version - the only thing missing is too little guitar on the record !
but for me A Day at the races is my favourite record ever. Just for Long Away, You and I and Teo Torriatte alone.
plus i saw them live 6 times with Freddie - yay me !!!
dragged a mate to Milton Keynes and he wasnt a fan, he was after !

I hope you lot have been watching the 2 part Queen Documentary that has been on BBC 2 the last couple of nights. It is really good and shows some unseen footage of them when they film some promos and studio footage. Really good programme.

My favourite album by Queen has to be Made in Heaven. One song I love on that album is Mother Love.
