I made a thread about Freddie Mercury's album Mr. Bad Guy here quite a while ago and got no replies, so I'm going to post what I wrote here, as it's something that interests me and I was hoping for some good discussion!
================
Not a huge fan of Freddie Mercury's solo work (it's quite dated nowadays), but I'm surprised Mr. Bad Guy hasn't had something of a resurgence in recent years.
Is anybody else familiar with it? With the likes of Lady Gaga dominating the charts now, I really thought this album would start to be seen in a much better light than what it was when it was first released in 1985.
Freddie Mercury appears to have quite an influence in this whole neo-eighties movement of recent years and it's quite clear why in Mr. Bad Guy. Even the songs of the era that didn't make it beyond the demo stage, such as Yellow Breezes and I Love Makin' Love could have great potential if covered by an artist in this style.
Tracks like Let's Turn It On, My Love Is Dangerous and Living On My Own have very clear similarities to the dance pop that is currently in vogue, much more so than anything Freddie did with Queen.
It's interesting that the two studio albums Freddie released, this and 1988's Barcelona with Montserrat Caballe, were critical and commercial failures, but have both been very much a blueprint of genres are now quite popular, with Barcelona hinting at what was to come with Il Divo and G4. Oh well, I'll forgive Freddie for it!
Anybody else have any thoughts on this album?

Just listen to the B-side from this era, Stop All The Fighting, I honestly think you could mistake it for a Lady Gaga song!
