I'm too young to have seen them live too, but I can at least now say I've seen Brian May play live 3 times - twice on tour with Kerry Ellis and once at the We Will Rock You anniversary show earlier this week! So I least I can say I've heard Brighton Rock and Love of My Life a few times, and Bohemian Rhapsody, We Are the Champions and The Show Must Go On last week - better than nothing I guess!

Rufus Taylor is an amazing drummer, he played on Brian and Kerry's tour and was absolutely flawless.

Brian did play Proms in the Park in London last year, again with the lovely Kerry Ellis. The tour's finished, but they're playing Hampton Court Palace and RAF Cranwell in the summer. Loads of Queen songs and a solo spot from Brian, well worth seeing, although I am a music theatre fan so I went equally to see Kerry.

OK, I always found it strange the way it ended but each time I listen to the end bit it grows on me more and more.

So this year is the 40th Anniversary? Fingers crossed we finally get Greatest Flix 3 on dvd.

First saw Queen in late 1974 on the Sheer heart attack tour at the Victoria Hall in Stoke. Funny thing was me & my mate only went along 'cos we thought they'd be awful live after watching them mime away to Killer Queen on top of the pops! We were sitting in row 10 & needless to say....
Saw them 3 more times after that at Bingley hall in Stafford, where I once got a stalk from a flower that Freddie had thrown out into the audince, sadly this was lost during a house move.
Am I the only Queen fan who wishes that Brian & Roger would have given up after Freddie's death?
At times there seems something almost desparate about the way they hawk themselves around Breakfast TV. Take your own advice Brian...leaving home ain't easy, but may be the only way!

No i agree with you . I don't think the Queen legacy has been particularly enhanced by Brian or Roger over the years but i am sure they would disagree.

Queen should have stopped when Freddie died.

I adore Queen. I've grown up listening to them but really got into them when I was 15 in 2004. I saw the video for 'A Winter's Tale' and loved it. 'Slightly Mad' is probably my favourite song by them.

I've been listening to the hidden track alot lately. Bliss.

My first post on Digital Spy, I guess it would be of no great surprise to anyone who knows me that it would be about my favourite band, Queen.

I like all forms of music, but my interests lie in stuff that are old and vintage. Queen are my favourite band because they epitomise what it is to create great music, to follow their own rules without worry of what others will think of them because ultimately, they provide the goods; great music.

Of course they're not trend setters like The Beatles, or other acts, but then that's not what they're trying to do. Their sole goals were to create music, and to incite a riot with their stand alone performances.

Great band. Mercury was one of the greatest frontmen.

I love Queen sooo much. Unfortunately I never got to see them live because Freddie died before I was born. Luckily, I've not run out of material to listen to- they produced about 170 songs. I've only heard about 80, I'm getting through it slowly

I much prefer their 70's stuff, it's more glam rock than classic. Their other stuff is still amazing though. They're very versatile.

Some of my personal favourite songs:

Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy- Very Freddie-ish. I remember it from when my parents played it in the car when I was little and it was my favourite.

Killer Queen- Love the guitar riffs. Brian May said that the guitar solo for this song was the one that he was proudest of.

Teo Torriate
Innuendo
Liar- <3 <3
Love Of My Life
Bohemian Rhapsody
My Melancholy Blues
Get Down Make Love
Jesus
My Fairy King-

The only one I don't like is Fun It

Machines (Back to Humans) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TlJXHc4jb30

Put on their The Works album, you can see how such a piece can work well alongside songs like Radio Ga Ga and Hammer to Fall. It's keeping to a theme.

They're my favourite band. I was only two when Freddie died so I could never experience them first time round. My favourite song is probably 'I'm Going Slightly Mad'.

I quite like listening to a lot of old music, my prefered range of music being between the 1950s to 90s. I like modern songs, but they don't instill in me the same admiration, joy, or longevity of time. Old songs are the best. By that I like things by Elvis, The Beatles, etc, but Queen express the zenith of that trend of greatness.

Before there were electronic recording machines to record a person's voice, a musician spent his life in front of an audience, honing his craft. Nowadays people create music for the sake of fame and money, whereas, old musicians did the same, but had a passion to want to create for it's own sake, and to have their fans enjoy their work. Queen do that, and more.

A good example. Although the clapping affect only came about because of the video attached to the song, this performance of Radio Ga Ga adequetly demonstrates how Queen want to give a good performance. Before Live Aid, Queen reheresed a week solid for a bill of only twenty minutes. They were perfectionists and performers.

Also for those who don't know that Freddie Mercury was advised by his doctor that his voice was not good before they did Live Aid, but Freddie went out and did it after downing a shot of vodka. You can't tell that Freddie had vocal problems that day. They blew everybody of the Wembley stage that day and knew how to work the audience as well. I have the Live Aid dvd's and it is so astonishing when you see from the back of stage shot and looking out over the stage and you see 80,000 hands clapping together in unison.

Whenever someone covers another's song, there is always a comparison between the former singer's version, and the latter's.

I don't think anyone else could make good versions of these well known classics like Queen could.

A bit of trivia about Queen. They're the only band in the world to have all its members inducted into the Rock Hall of fame as writers. No other band has accomplished that, not the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, The Who, or Led Zepplin.

Interesting but, yeah, they're unique in that each member is supremely talented as a performer/songwriter...and I doubt any other band will achieve this in the future either.

Queen were the first band I can remember taking any notice of when I was really young, watching the Bohemian Rhapsody video on TOTP week after week when I was 6. The first single I ever bought myself was We Are The Champions. Far too many favourite songs to name really but Las Palabras De Amor, Tear It Up, Liar and Let Me Live take some beating.

It looks like they're also set to release some unreleased material - this will probably include the tracks they did in the '80s with Michael Jackson....more below..
