They're also all very brainy...

NB: Why don't you ask the MODs to merge this thread with the existing one held within the Appreciation area?

I adore Queen.

Freddie Mercury was and still is a legend within music. I grew up listening to their music.

Grew up with Queen....first ever gig I saw was Queen at the Colston Hall Bristol back in 75.
Can't believe it will be 20 years this Thursday that Freddie died.

Another reasons I find Queen to be more popular than other musicians, is that when one of their songs are played, people know the lyrics to it. Queen didn't write songs, they wrote whole album full of anthemes that people instantly recognise the world over.

Thing about Queen is that they had everything covered. Each member is a legend, they were basically a supergroup back in their day, but with no outside projects to detract from Queen.

They likely have the biggest collection of 'greatest hits' compilations known to music

They knew a hook, they knew a guitar solo, they always had the clap along drum part and the front man was a flamboyant charisma cannon.

Modern bands need to take note.

Not an entire expert on the subject of Zoroastrians, but if I recollect properly, I remember that the whole ethoes of their religion is centred on the basis that life is to be enjoyed; that life is a gift and that it should be enjoyed to the fullest in order to appreciate the gift they (we) have been bestowed with. And brought up on such traditions on Zanzibar, you can see how and why Freddie was as driven on the stage as he was, how he seemlessly enjoyed being a performer and took everything to excess, although being a rock star, it went with the territory anyway.

And thinking of excess, I am compelled to share the video and song of what has come into my mind now.

I've been listening to A Night at the Opera everyday at 15:32 for the past two weeks.

True, it's because I've inadvertently set it as an alarm and couldn't be bothered to remove the disc, but it still stands as a magnificently innovative album. I thought I'd get bored of it, listeninf to it every damn day. But I never did.

I'm now gonna put Queen II in (my favourite of their albums) and repeat the inadvertent experiment.

Queen stars release greatest concert footage on new DVD

Quote:
“QUEEN stars ROGER TAYLOR and BRIAN MAY are belatedly celebrating the 25th anniversary of the group's greatest gigs with the release of a new two-DVD package featuring both London shows back in the summer of 1986.

The bandmates have worked with top film experts to lovingly restore footage shot at two very different sold out Wembley Stadium concerts, which they believe feature late frontman Freddie Mercury's finest performances...

...Queen Live at Wembley Stadium 2 DVD 25th Anniversary Edition will be released on 12 March, 2013.”

The Works is my favourite album by Queen, and also one of my favourite albums by anyone. I know some folk sneer at it for been too commercial or whatever, but I like every track on it.

Saw them in 1982,1984 and 1986. Best concerts I have ever seen by anyone, I especially loved the hot space tour, Freddie's voice was amazing and all the band were on top form and the atmosphere at the outdoor gigs was just so good. I remember dragging a mate along who wasn't a huge Queen fan. He was blown away by how good they were and that turned him into a fan instantly. I still remember the opening "flash" beats before they hit the stage with "the hero"..aaaah memories

And for me "a day at the races" and "news of the world " are the most perfect albums ever. Could listen (have listened) to those 2 on repeat for ever!

I really like Queen, but I love, love, love Freddie. - Such a strong, instantly recognizable voice. I don't know anybody who can compare with him.

After all these years I still miss him like crazy. Irreplacable.
