Android 2.2 - when?
Anyone know when it's coming? I have a Legend 2.1 on Vodafone and have been promised it for a while now.

History would suggest that HTC are very slow when it comes to providing updates to Android. The only other example so far would be 2.1 for Hero which HTC first started mentioning last October and it is only beginning to roll out now. Who knows if it will be quite so bad for Legend and Desire... |

Changing to 2.1 for pre-2.1 phones is actually quite a jump, with a lot of testing required. 2.1 to 2.2 is easy-peasy in comparison so there shouldn't be anywhere near as much for them to do.
Phones with HTC's Sense interface will need a bit of work before they ship the update, but no reason to think there will be the sort of delays we saw for 2.1... |

Who promised it to you?
I'd respect them much more if they simply said "sorry I don't know". |

What do you loose when you update your handset? Is there anyway of knowing beforehand?

I've been wondering about this as the lack of iPlayer since I switched from a Nokia 5800 to a Desire is getting anoying, although it's a fantastic phone and a huge improvement in every other way.
A quick Google brought up this article: http://www.techradar.com/news/phone-...g-in-q3-699715 It says the update will be in Q3, which is anytime from right now til the end of September. Thanks HTC ![]() PS, they will also be updating Legend and Wildfire as soon as they can, probably at the same time. |

http://www.slashgear.com/nexus-one-g...pdate-2992003/ For a standard Nexus (I don't know what, if anything, Vodafone do to theirs) this includes a link which explains how you can install the latest firmware directly from the Google servers without needing to root the phone. |

Not so much of a big deal, at least for Desire owners.
There is a leaked version of an HTC 2.2 ROM (so they're obviously doing something), and the various "chefs" are working their magic on it. I am using one of them and it seems to be working great. |
