Iceland's lemon meringue ice cream at a mere £1 a tub is lovely, the cookies and cream flavour less so.

Ben & Jerrys' isn't overpriced as clearly that is what customers deem the product to be worth, you even say yourself that you don't mind paying a bit extra for it! Why are people convinced they know more about how to sell products than some of the worlds biggest manufacturers and retailers, Unilever in this case?

Maybe you can't afford to buy it all the time, but as I explained earlier, the manufacturers don't neccessarily want you to do so.
I don't mind because if I get a treat now and again, I don't really worry about the price. I don't buy sweets or ice cream on a regular basis. In the same way, I have a meal out every now and again and don't worry about the price too much as I know I can afford it. If I was buying it every week, then I would feel that I was being ripped off but I don't mind paying an extra euro or two for something I like now and again, and as I say I do tend to spot it when it's on half price.

I've seen it in shops in Ireland for almost €8, that is very expensive. Wouldn't pay that for it - but then lots of things are a rip off over here.

Tescos vanilla and toffee icecream (1 litre tubs, two for £3 often offer) is lovely. Give it a try

Sainsburys do three own brand tubs of Vanilla ice cream.

The Basics version for about 70p, which is just like eating ice , a Cornish cream version which is nice but not strong in taste and a middle of the range (with a blue lid) that is one of the best ice creams I've ever tasted - plus it's only about £1.20 . Before everyone moans, NONE of the ingredients are e-numbers or weird stuff that shouldn't be there.

Ben and Jerry's is OK, but a bit of a rip off. I can't remember the taste of HD.

Whatever happened to Baskin Robbins and Dayvilles? They used to have shops where you could choose from something like 31 flavours: I remember ones like strawberries and cream, one with cherries in, mint choc chip etc. Haven't seen one for many years and supermarkets only stock a very small range of flavours from Ben and Jerry's and Haagen Dazs.

I personally prefer frozen yougurt.

There is a Baskin Robbins shop on Great Russell Street in London.

Interesting. Checked their web site and there are a few dotted around but nowhere I'm likely to go. Maybe they'll open in Westfield.

Never mind the price but B & J ice cream is just far too sweet & too rich IMO.

I'll be picking up some tubs of B&J's later on before I go to my friends house. I know in my local spar B&J are selling for £2 a tub they only have a small selection of flavours though. they have cookie dough, caramel chew chew and choco fudge.

I adore HD Vanilla icecream, and the only other one that matches its quality is Green and Blacks, which is also £4 for 500 mls. I am happy to pay the price because I buy it infrequently as a treat, if it becomes cheaper then I would buy more and get fat.

^ I picked up two tubs the other day. went round my local spar today to pick up a tub of cookie dough and they've run out. they only have chunky monkey (is that the name?) and caramel chew chew which isn't terrible but too sweet.

Both Haagan Daaz and B&J icecream is a fair bit cheaper in America - although I generally find that at lease ocne a quarer Sainsburys does either 1/2 price by BOGOF deals on both brands. Haagan Daaz was half price there a couple of weeks back.

I don't have a username and password.

Just go to Food & Drink - Grocery - Frozen - Ice Cream, Lollies & Ice Cubes - Luxury Ice Cream

Scroll down a bit and there are nine of them.

That's a special offer, I am sure Asda sell it cheaper when they have a special offer.
Ben & Jerry's Pints are usually like $3.99 here in Ohio. I'm doing the conversion it's like 2.64 GBP I don't know how to make the Pound sign. I don't eat Haagendaz usually but their Haagendaz Five looks cool, just haven't been interested to try it yet. The Ben & Jerry's stuff is about a dollar sometimes 2 more than the other stuff. Kroger's does this 10 for $10 thing on a lot of stuff all the time, so you can get a pint of Kroger's Private Selection or whatever they call it for $1.00 I usually go for MooseTracks of that brand instead.

Thanks for that. So essentially it is the same price in the U.S. especially once you take into account things like economies of scale.

Rip-off Britain aye?

Still definitely nine for me! I suppose it could be listing what is stocked by your local store, although I don't recall having given them any details yet!
