Hi,
It's my birthday soon and I was wondering whether to ask for an iPod Touch

I currently have an 4GB iPod Nano 2nd Gen, which is filled to the point of bursting, so I am in need of a new music player

is the Touch worth it? and if yes, what size should I get? Price is kinda an issue, as I'd have to save for a bit as well
I'd use it for mainly music and apps, but with the odd tv show or film on there

Thanks in advance for any useful advice

EDIT: I just heard there's going to be a new iPod Touch in Sept - what features would this have?

Get the 3G 32gb, at least. It's surprising how fast it can fill up, esp if you add video. It's a little more expensive than the 8gb but you get 4x the capacity. Also, the 8gb is actually 2G in disguise.

& yes it's worth it

There are rumours (and only rumours at this point) that the new Touch will have a camera.

I have a 1st gen one and I was happy with it - well until my music collection out grew the 8GB.

Yes get a Touch, but wait 3-4 months until the new models are out.

Yes, absolutely!

Just bought the 64Gb version and have spent hours looking at the App Store. It's so much more than an iPod. Can't believe how much I have been missing.

The interface is great, fast and accurate the only thing missing is 3G...... but then that would make it an iPhone

You won't be disappointed.

It's a brilliant gadget. Much better than previous ipods. The apps are great.

The new ipod touch? There's always going to be something better around the corner, but you'll always be waitng! It'll probably have that super high res screen and the new gyro controls of the iphone 4. I dont see any plans yet.

I've got an Ipod touch (2G 16 gig) and I love it. The apps are the best part It's definitely worth it. I'd get an Iphone but I think you're tied to a contract with them

You can get an iphone, even a 4, without contract. I'm upgrading to one next week and I'm on pay as you go. I'm buying the phone direct from Apple and Orange are sending me the new micro sim card that this phone uses.

Agree about the touch, it's a fantastic device and although I paid over £200 for mine about 18 months ago (2nd gen) it has been worth every penny and more. I have loads of apps on it and also of course use it a lot for listening to music and podcasts, and watching some video.

Like I said, expensive but really worth the money. If I was wanting to get one now I'd probably wait until the 4th gen ones come out in a few months time.

Which one do you have? Is it the 8GB or 16GB? I've got the 16GB one myself and I think I still have about 9 gigs left on it or something.

I've got the 16GB, just over 1GB free on it but a lot of that I could probably delete and not miss it too much. Before that I had 8GB 3rd gen nano, which I gave to my sister when I got the touch.

Touches? No

I have an ipod 5g video. Much better than a touch. I don't care that it's got a smaller screen and isn't touch and I can't get all the apps and crap on it.
I bought it for music and it's 80gb. I think you can get 160gb iPod classics now. If you want it for music, get one of those. I have a load of music videos and TV shows on there though and lots of podcasts.

I wouldn't pay more for a Touch for only 32GB, that's ridiculous.

Classic > Touch

My girl friend's iPod Nano, which she'd had for some 4 years was starting to die, so she bought an iPod Touch. She really loves it, and is enjoying using it. She has various apps on there, and all her music.

I just got an 8gb and I love it. I already have a 160gb classic, which is for my music (obviously) so didn't really need anything more than the 8gb touch as I only wanted it for apps mainly. Also using it for podcasts and a few fave albums.

I'm really impressed with it, and have wasted many many hours playing on the apps, bloody Angry Birds... Grrr!!!

Its better than the previous iPods apart from one area - my old 2nd gen touch needed rebooting every couple of days when hooked up to the Alpine head unit in car. The 5th gen video never had that issue.

Great gadget, fun games, quite good for video (screen is a tad small for extended viewing). Kinda sad I drowned mine

essentially the same as the ipad at a fraction of the cost. Or should i say the ipad is a massive ipod touch at a ludicrous cost.

so yep - its worth it. new ones will no doubt be out in the next few months.

How are you getting on with the iPad? Is it living up to the hype?

(apologies for meandering off topic!)

Ipod Touch? Yes I do have one. Shame the battery doesn't seem to want to last that long. I have the 3rd generation 32gb model. I did not want the 64gb as I have had the 160gb classic for a few years and that is great for music (although I do like the voice activation on the ipod touch - shame you have to use headphones as it does not have a built in mic). A camera would be useful as it is great for those spur of the moment times when you haven't got your regular camera and you see a good photo opportunity. Overall though I am happy with my purchase. Recommended game - PathPix

It's nothing new. It's called Skype. Phones have had the ability to do video calls over 3G and WLAN for years now

There isn't really a market for such MP3 players. Especially if you are limited to WiFi areas only too.
