I wouldn't get one if you want to use it for getting email - see a separate post I've just done on this, having an Orange email account.

I read a lot about how the latest Sony mp3 players and the latest Cowon players and the latest Creative players all trump the iPod Touch in the sound department.
I agree. They are all probably great mp3 players. If I wanted a unit purely for the sound, I'd have one of the above. But I want the Apps that make the Touch so much more than a mere media player. It also helps that the Touch has class a leading, responsive multi-touch UI and an industrial design and use of materials that is second to none. |

Dunno about that. Shortly before selling my old Sony Minidisc player on fleabay (and receiving a paltry sum in return grr), I did a compare and contrast on my sub 50 quid earbuds between said player and my various iPods.
The Sony knocked spots off the iPod - so much so I nearly held onto it before remembering the PITA it was to manage music on it (realtime recording, anyone?). It's worth noting that the original Shuffle sounds better than the Touch, to my ears at lest. |

I find that my ipod touch 3G is a good thing to have. also dont forget that the ipod touches 2G & 3G can both run os4 witch is the software that runs on the iphone 4. best thing is make folders witch you could not do before this update came out. so when you get your ipod touch update it to os4.

my son had a zen which is fine. I had an archos which is also fine, but heavier - eventually we got him a ipod touch - its dearer and it seems like duplication, but its worth it i think, for the apps.
you can see why people end up with i-phones, even though they are dearer ----------- wait to see if there is a new nodel by all means, but the functionality wont change a lot |

If a new one does come out in September, will the old 2gen 8gb one still be easily available?
My daughter wants one for Christmas and only the 8gb is within my price range for her (with 3 kids Christmas doesn't come cheap!) but I'm slightly worried that it might be discontinued? Would it be worth getting one from Amazon now or could they still be available and even go down in price? |

btw, I couldn't help but be totally distracted from the content of your post by duplicate incorrect spells in your post

Chances are the 32GB will soon come in line with the 8GB's price, as 16GB is no longer available. Flash memory keeps getting cheaper as technology develops.
The 4th gen iTouch will probably have the further upgraded CPU, RAM, and the Retina display hardware like the iPhone 4, but minus the usual iPhone features (it might have a camera this time though). I suspect Apple will keep a cheap iTouch model, though what it will consist of is anybody's guess, but the real 4th gen iTouch versions will carry a heavy price premium over what is still a 2nd gen 8GB model. |
