Bloody massive, isn't it. The only films I can stand on C4 now are 2.35:1 ones, where it sticks in the black bar (just) rather than graffiting the film itself.

Who else noticed that ITV 1 has started adding an unwelcome pimple to the top-left corner of that particular channel? Thank god I don't watch it very often...[/quote]

I think he means the fact it says 'ITV' on SD, too. The HD DOG is effectively smaller.

On other news, and after 5's 16:9 showings, it looks like 300 is an OAR premiere on ITV tonight.

That's the one.

Yes, I was surprised to see that, too. And surprised to hear that it's only ever been on the C5 platform to date. Before I saw your post, I coulda sworn this had been on ITV sometime in the past, but you're right.

Have they changed the schedule? My Radio Times doesn't list HAIRSPRAY as due for broadcast on that channel today.

Libretio has anyone said what a great service you provide on here? I for one find it very informative to see what films are in their OAR on TV. Thank you.

From now on, I don't think we should mention any more if a film is in OAR on any of the Channel 4 family of channels, as they almost always are. We should only mention if they aren't as that's as rare as finding one in OAR on the other terrestrial channels.

It's the BBC/ITV/C5 who are slowly but surely getting there regarding OAR stuff so we shoul be pointing out when they do it right.

(BLUSH!) A few people have said some very nice things, and I'm happy that some posters find these lists useful on a regular (or even not-so-regular) basis. Enjoy!

By the way, last time I looked, Film 4 were running a colourised version of 20 MILLION MILES TO EARTH, though today's broadcast was back to good ol' black 'n white. Good thing, too.

Shout at the Devil (BBC 2) sadly not, unless the opening credits count! The print quality was a bit ropey with muffled audio track.

Sadly not. But as with everything else on the list, I only include the 3-D notation to let you know that's how it's supposed to be. That way, you can make an informed choice whether to view the film in 2-D or not.

I know it's been on before, and I'm sure I checked a previous broadcast, but I can't remember what I found.

C5 replaced PISTOL WHIPPED with the widescreen 'epic' CRIMSON TIDE last night - cropped to buggery, though.

why do they bother panning and scanning? its much more work to do! I can sort of see why they did it for 4:3 as the 2.35/4:1 format has a lot of letter boxing to do, but I really dont understand why they pan and scan to fit in a 16:9 frame? it does not make any sense any more!

Chances are the distributor did it for the US market and they got the same print...

In a lot of cases, these prints were done a long time ago and it costs them nothing to just play out the same print they've got rather than take time to source a 2.35:1 one. Only C4 actively bothered to do that.

PS. Air Force One on BBC1 - is this an OAR premiere? I don't recall it ever being in 2.35:1 before.

Not a premiere. I saw this for the first time on the Beeb over a year ago, and wouldn't have watched if it hadn't been OAR.

Surprised to see BODY OF LIES playing OAR on ITV 2 last night. Coulda sworn I'd seen some of this on another ITV channel some time ago and it was cropped/reframed. Oh, well - I ain't complainin' about the upgrade...
