Does that mean that now the Manchester IMAX have "upgraded" from projecting in 70mm to digital, I'll only see 1.9:1 at most, and any 1.44:1 films will be cropped?
I hope not! Haven't they just added digital projectors? Anyone?

I don't know. You said "digital IMAXes only have a ratio of about 1.9:1"

Yes, they do. But I had in mind purpose built digital IMAX theatres rather than sticking digital projectors in existing grand theatres. It would surely be bonkers to throw out an IMAX film projector and waste vast amounts of screen space for the rest of the building's life.

At least I hope they see it that way...

A Bullet for the General is on Movies4Men in a very decent 2:35:1 print, I mention this only due to the crossover with More > Movies and Freeviews Movie Mix. It may well crop up on the latter at some point.
Most of the older western/war films are confined to Movies4Men.

I wouldn't be so sure. They seem glad of the fact that they can shove a ton of ads before it, like they can with the other screens.

And I made this vlog about it, too:

SEABISCUIT screened OAR on ITV 3 this afternoon. Was this an OAR 'premiere', I wonder?

A Bronx Tale in 4:3, not OAR of 1.85:1 on BBC TWO, also should be available in HD transfer now.

I think Seabiscuit has been on ITV 2 previously, and it was cropped. Interesting how it changes channel and suddenly it's available in OAR...!

Just to clarify, does digital projection in IMAX spell the end for a film being shown in different ratios throughout the same film? (eg. Dark Knight Rises and last year's Spiderman)

I'll be lodging a strong complaint if that's the case.

No, it means it will open out but only to 1.9 (apparently 1.89 to be accurate):1 instead of 1.44, leaving large sections of the screen unilluminated.

Unilluminated in 15/70 theatres running digital versions that is, of course. It'll fit the digital IMAX screen perfectly.

I wonder if Manchester have kept both so they can switch them over if need be? That's another question to put to them.

Anyone else seen Star Trek Into Darkness opened up to anything more than approx 16:9? (given how IMDB states 1.44:1, but may be wrong)

I'm planning to see the film next Monday, but I hear even the retrofitted 3D isn't great, so was going to see the 2D version.

It's a definite premiere as it's come up on the Movie Premieres thread a few times, as it's been around for some time, but I thought C5 had all the Sony films (and they've still to show 2012, which came out in the cinema in 2009, and to miss the chance to show it DURING 2012 is just ridiculous).

Adventureland was shown on BBC2 recently. Was that the film you were thinking of? I saw a bit of it, but it didn't really interest me.

The Social Network is a brilliant film. Looks terrible on paper, but for some reason evrything just clicks into place and it really works...

It's co-produced by Relativity who appear to have recently signed a deal with Channel 4, as a couple of their co-productions from various studios have started appearing on C4 recently.

Hey, I'm only 41!

Blood Diamond currently showing in OAR. It's not a premiere, but it's from 2006, so I don't know if it's an OAR premiere.

A thousand apologies for being late in posting this week's listings. No fancy excuses - it just slipped my mind.
