Real giveaway is NOW... Giveaway is Carr's ankles. She sprained one shortly before they shot 16 going on 17 - just checked - they had Photoshopped out the dressing on the recent remaster.
Left ankle was always a little puffier... Listed on IMDB's goof pages... |

I'd suspect they have - or Fox withdrew old prints and resupplied...

Wall-E gets its premier on BBC1 tomorrow afternoon immediately followed by Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
Both films were made in 2.35:1 I believe, so it'll be interesting to see if they're shown in the OAR. Also, the Indy film is a 12(A) so I wonder if it'll be cut at all. |

Lara Croft: Tomb Raider on BBC1 in 2.35:1 now. Not seen this before. How bad is it?
The sequel's on just after midnight tomorrow, too. |

Does this mean they've brought a new print or was the 16:9 version they've shown before a pan and scan version of a 2.31:1 version?
Just played back my recording of Lara Croft: The Cradle of Life, and despite showing the first film in 2.35:1, the sequel was cropped to 16:9. I presume it was in 16:9 also on BBC1HD. |

Wall-E was in 2.35:1 earlier. It's repeated on BBC3 on Jan 6th at 7pm, and Jan 9th at 8.30pm.
Indiana Jones 4 on BBC1 now in 2.35:1 (no repeats scheduled) and Independence Day about to start on C4 in 2.35:1 (which it always is on there) |

Well Indiana Jones is currently being broadcast in OAR. I might be wrong but I think this is the first time that BBC1 has ever transmitted a film in 2.35:1 during the peak evening viewing period.
Did anyone see if Wall-E was in 2.35:1 earlier? |

Did anyone see if Wall-E was in 2.35:1 earlier? ![]() I think this is as late as a 2.35:1 film has got, eating into primetime. The real test will be Raiders on Weds, at 8.10pm, as that'll cross the whole 8-10 period. They bottled it with the drama, Toast, on Thursday, though. Radio Times lists it at (W) and there's no point buying a new 16:9 print, so it's either the 2.35:1 print used on BBC HD before, or their 4:3 print which looked older than the film itself(!) |

Raiders was on BBC HD in 2.35:1 last time so I suspect the BBC1 screening will be also this week.
Its look like we've really turned a corner this Xmas with films being shown in their correct ratio. Never have so many films been aired on BBC1 and ITV1 in 2.35:1 before , and in slots other than late night. Long may it continue. Shame ITV have not done it with 007 yet bar the credits |

The hills are alive with the black-bars of wiiiiidescreeeeen. Sound of Music in 2.20:1 on BBC1 right now.
IMDB lists 2.35:1 as the print struck for cinemas, since that's the conventional ratio, but 2.20:1 is how it was made, in Todd-AO. As for THE SOUND OF MUSIC, it was broadcast correctly at 2.20:1, since the print was sourced from 70mm materials (the giveaway is the fact that it contained a credit for Todd-AO - 35mm prints do not). Earlier BBC screenings were sourced from 35mm elements, 2.35:1 ratio cropped to 1.78:1 (and, in the early days, 1.33:1). |

Five showing Towering Inferno in 4:3..........you'd think they'd realise this is one film that NEEDS to be shown in widescreen!

They don't care if it is in the correct aspect ratio, have the news in the middle of it, a DOG, and IPP or a credit squeeze. I hate when a fave film is shown on Five especially if it means it won't be shown on other channels for a while because of it. |

And in a daft bit of scheduling, Channel 4 have Iron Man on against it!!
But to be honest I suppose most people would have seen it by now on DVD and it is on C4+1 as well. I watched 'The Incredible Hulk' on ITV HD which was first time HD viewing for me. Don't have C4 HD unfortunately. |

Don't have C4 HD unfortunately. Someone posted on my FB page: "Can't believe they cut part of the main Hulk scene. Itv are so shit." As for Iron Man, in true C4 style, it's on again in a few days - on Saturday at 6.40pm. |

Am I right in thinking that the BBC started to show the correct OAR on BBC One SD when the BBC One HD simulcast started? I got the feeling when it was shown on BBC HD, it was broadcast separately hence the change now?

PJ Its been very good for the last few weeks but I expect there will be more than a few films shown in the wrong ratios for quite some time to come until the channels get all new prints of their movies. Not 100% sure but I'm guessing that all the 2.35:1 movies this Xmas are receiving their terrestrial premier or at least their terrestrial HD premier so all the films the channels have left to show that they've owned for a while are likely to carry on in the wrong ratio. How long before the Radio Times and newspapers get complaints from the proles? |

I must be missing something here; apart from one of the Hannibal films and Happy Feet, what else has been shown on ITV1 in 2:35.1 ?

Dreamgirls
Dreamgirls is currently on 4Music in AOR. Unfortunately, there are two very distracting DOGS on the screen - one on the top left hand side which says "4Music Hits Hollywood" and a bright pink one on the top right hand side which says "Dreamgirls All New!"
