I looked on their site for a way to contact them via email but only found a phone number and I'm not wasting my phone bill to tell some disinterested 12-year-old in Godknowswhere how wrong they are.
This could probably be an advertising standards issue as they are falsely implying that the player will be able to uncover picture behind the bars. This kind of nonsence will ensure people will continue thinking the black bars are covering up picture and they are missing something. |

Slightly off topic, In the marketing blurb for samsungs new TVs and BD players, they state our new technoligy automatical expands 2.3:1 movies to 16:9 filling the screen so you see the film as it was suposed to be seen without the annoying black bars, er no the aspect it was filmed in is the way it is supossed to be seen, this poor marketing will only confuse the uneducated even more.

This kind of nonsence will ensure people will continue thinking the black bars are covering up picture and they are missing something. "I'm sending this message to complain about the description on this page: http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/t...ype=prd_detail You basically state that black bars in films are covering up the picture beneath them and that by altering them to 16:9, with your TVs, that is how the picture is MEANT to be seen?! Let me get this straight... you've manufactured a TV that *creates* image on the fly? How did you manage that(?) Get this changed or you'll be up before the Advertising Stands Authority for talking a complete load of misleading bunkum. Thankyou." |

Whilst I obviously agree the advertising is misleading I hope you worded your complaint in more diplomatic and professional language than that, otherwise I wouldn't expect them to take much notice of it.

To be fair to Phil, if you actually sent that to Samsung then I would expect them to just laugh at your email and delete it.

I think it would be worth sending your complaint to the ASA, i think Samsung will still be on their radar after the investigation and subsequent fines over the marketing of their LED back lit TVs a couple of years ago. Samsung must be stupid trying to pull such a misleading marketing trick so soon.

That's exactly the point I was trying to make. To DVDFever,I'm not out to criticise everything you post, much of what you post is perfectly valid and interesting, and as I said I fully agree that the advert is misleading. But if you want or expect Samsung to take any notice of your complaint then you need to address them in a proper and professional manner.

Well as I said, they're just going to ignore your email then. I would as it just comes across as rude to be honest.

Based on what's been said since, they're not going to ignore mention of the ASA.
It's almost as if you're giving the recipient permission to bin your letter or delete your email.

We've been here before with your strange and abusive correspondence about DOGs and animated pop-up Graham Nortons. Whatever valid points you might make are completely undermined by your unpleasant tone and rude jibes.
It's almost as if you're giving the recipient permission to bin your letter or delete your email. ![]() "Thank you for contacting Samsung and I have pleasure in providing the following assistance. Kindly note that you contacted Samsung Technical Support department but your suggestion has been forwarded to the appropriate department. If you require any further assistance, please contact Samsung again and we will be more than happy to help." So they didn't bin it. So

"Thank you for your e-mail to Samsung. We will reply to your e-mail shortly. Samsung Customer Care Centre This is an automatically generated reply. Please do not reply to sending e-mail address." Funny how it's always the same people who wade in to criticise anything I post |

I've never criticised you before this thread but if you can't see that both those responses are just automated then you may be slightly deranged.

Underneath what I posted, it added: "Kind regards, Tina Shephard. Online Support Team SAMSUNG Customer Support Centre" Unless Tina is a computer... |

There was nothing in either email referencing anything you wrote in yours. Normally if a real person had taken the time to write that much they would probably mention something about what you had wrote about.

So your saying the computer is called Tina?
"Kindly note that you contacted Samsung Technical Support department but your suggestion has been forwarded to the appropriate department." The very most Tina did was take a cursory glance at your comments and then click on a standard "wrong department" template. |

2.35:1 films on Freeview for next week (12 - 18 February):
Once again, Film4 are screening the 3-D film THE BOUNTY HUNTER (1.85:1) in 2-D, which is hardly their fault, but I thought I'd mention it anyway. And, also as usual, the 15-certificate EYE OF THE NEEDLE (also 1.85:1) is screening on More4 in an early morning slot, which means it will be cut to pieces. C4 has done this repeatedly with this particular title, with no mention before each transmission that viewers are getting an edited version. THE ABYSS (Film4) AIR FORCE ONE (BBC 3) ALIEN (Film4) AN AMERICAN HAUNTING (Channel 5) ANNA AND THE KING (More4) APOLLO 13 (ITV 2) AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS (Film4) AVP: ALIEN VS. PREDATOR (C4) BASIC INSTINCT (ITV 2) BATMAN BEGINS (ITV 2) BLACK KNIGHT (Film4) BODY OF LIES (Sky3) THE BRAVADOS (Film4) BRAVEHEART (More4) THE BRAVE ONE (Film4) BRIDGET JONES: THE EDGE OF REASON (ITV 2) THE BUSINESS (Film4) THE CRIMSON RIVERS [Les Rivieres Pourpres] (Film4) THE DAMNED (BBC 2) DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER (ITV 4) DIE HARD 4.0 [Live Free or Die Hard ] (Film4) DO NOT DISTURB (Film4) EASY VIRTUE (BBC 2) THE ENEMY BELOW (Film4) EVAN ALMIGHTY (ITV 2) FERRIS BUELLER'S DAY OFF (Film4) FOOL'S GOLD (Film4) FORCE 10 FROM NAVARONE (Five USA) FOUR BROTHERS (Film4) GERONIMO (More4) GIRL WITH A PEARL EARRING (BBC 1) A GOOD MAN IN AFRICA (ITV 3) GOOD MORNING, MISS DOVE (Film4) [2.55:1] HOW TO STEAL A MILLION (Film4) THE ITALIAN JOB (E4) KINGPIN (E4) L.A. CONFIDENTIAL (C4) LAST HOLIDAY (Film4) LAST OF THE DOGMEN (Five USA) THE LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN (C4) THE LEFT HAND OF GOD (Film4) [2.55:1] LOONEY TUNES: BACK IN ACTION (ITV 1) MISSION TO MARS (ITV 4) NED KELLY (ITV 4) NIGHT PASSAGE (ITV 4) ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE (ITV 4) PALE RIDER (ITV 4) THE REAPING (Fiver) A REASON TO LIVE, A REASON TO DIE [Una Ragione per Vivere, Una Ragione per Morire] (ITV 4) REVOLVER (Channel 5) THE RIVER'S EDGE (Film4) THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS (BBC 1) THE RUINS (BBC 1) RUN FATBOY RUN (Film4) RUSHMORE (Film4) SHANGHAI KNIGHTS (BBC 2) SHAUN OF THE DEAD (ITV 1) SOLDIER (ITV 4) STAR WARS EPISODE V: THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK (ITV 1) URBAN LEGENDS: FINAL CUT (Fiver) LA VIE EN ROSE [La Mτme] (BBC 2) WHAT A GIRL WANTS (Channel 5) |
