It would be great if Film4 showed "No blade of grass" uncut preferably.

Likely that all ITV's Bond films will be cut and cropped.
The Abyss will be the BBFC cut version and all previous BBC2 broadcasts of The Damned have been 16:9 so I guess it will be again although the correct ratio is preserved on the dvd releases

It would be great if Film4's range of titles was considerably broadened, encompassing a much wider range of movies. It always seems like they've only got about half a dozen films on constant rotation, with a few new ones thrown into the mix every month to make it seem like more. I know times are harsh and money is tight, but if we have to endure INDEPENDENCE DAY or FOUR WEDDINGS AND A bleedin' FUNERAL one more time...

ITV ought to be ashamed of itself for the contant repeats of the Bond series. Someone must be watching them, but it's doubtful the viewing figures are very high. Constantly cropped and cut and interrupted by endless commercial breaks - not the best way to see any movie, let alone one that's been on TV so many times, it's a surprise the tape hasn't snapped.

Hopefully, I'll be in a better mood once the medication kicks in...

I didn't realise The Abyss was cut; this page from the American Humane Association's website explains why it was cut:

Interesting that it would've been cut in the US as well then.

This threatens to drift off-topic, but despite Cameron's bleatings to the contrary, this sequence should never have been filmed. And now it turns out the producers either lied to the AHA about the use of an animal in the production of the film, or (at the very least) failed to contact them after it became clear that an animal WAS going to be used in this particular scene. No excuse for it, pure and simple, and the BBFC was quite right to remove the offending material. Not to mention they were operating within the law of the land and could have been liable for prosecution if they hadn't ordered its removal.

The US version is uncut.
Like so many other films the UK is the only country where it is cut.

Having had the R1 dvd for more than a decade I shall be buying the US Bluray when it comes out later this year

Completely agree,it's getting ridiculous now,Bond films seem to be on either ITV 2 or 4 near enough every two-three weeks.

Surprised that no one posted about AIR FORCE ONE, which 'premiered' at 2.35:1 on BBC 3 last night (12 Feb). If you missed it, the film is repeated later this week.

Unfortunately, LA VIE EN ROSE premiered on terrestrial TV (BBC 2) at the usual cropped 16:9.

It's basically pot-luck whether the film you want to see will get the full OAR treatment.

Air Force One isn't so bad if it's not in 2.35:1 as it was shot in super 35.

The Cry of the Owl is currently on BBC2 in 2.35:1.

No...I've not heard of before either!

And also Girl with a Pearl Necklace, I mean, Earring, on BBC1 right now, which was on BBC4 the same way a couple of weeks back.

As if to atone for recent transgressions, the Beeb went overboard last night - not that I'm complaining, mind! - with both THE CRY OF THE OWL and GIRL WITH A PEARL EARRING, both of which have already been mentioned. But on top of all that, the late, late, late film on BBC 2, EXPIRED, was also framed at 2.35:1!

Apologies for mentioning neither OWL or EXPIRED in the last listing of 2.35:1/Freeview movies which I posted last Friday, but I had no idea they were shot at that ratio. They're listed that way at IMDb, but I would never rely on them as a resource, unless I could double-check the info at other sites.

SOLDIER was framed at 2.35:1 on ITV 4 last night (15 Feb).

Next week's 2.35:1 movies on Freeview (19 - 25 February):

'Twould be nice if E4 ran the 2.35:1 version of BULLETPROOF MONK which has so far been missing in action across the C4 platform ever since they bought the rights to this film (it's been screened at 16:9 from the start). But I suspect we'll get the same old cropped/altered print they've been peddling for ages.

Curiously, for a premiere on C4, Babylon AD is cropped from 2.35:1 to 16:9. It's a bloody awful film, but that's not the point.

Perhaps it was the distributor who supplied 4 with a cropped version rather than 4 doing it themselves. Considering that they showed X-Men before it in 2.35:1 it's unlikely they decided to crop it themselves.

Yes, I'm not doubting it was how it came, it just seems odd to do that. If that's what happened, I'd hold off showing it until they could supply the correct print, but I don't run Channel 4.

Is memory failing me, or has BABYLON A.D. already been screened on Film4? If so, 'twould be interesting to know if it was 2.35:1 on that channel.

This scenario isn't without precedence. For a long while, RAT RACE would be screened at 2.35:1 on C4, E4 and More4 but not Film4, which always struck me as very odd indeed. And then, just to confound everyone even further, I believe recent screenings on Film4 were at 2.35:1...

Digiguide lists it as a premiere, and it didn't seem like 5 mins since I did a review, but it was back in December 2008, with a cinema release in the August.

Superman cropped on C5 but even worse the print was appalling and seemed to be sourced from a time before the 2000 restoration , let alone the current Bluray
