South Pacific is being shown properly on BBC2, unlike Oklahoma yesterday, whose print looked like it had been buried along with most of the cast.

It wasn't where I was looking, it was 16:9, South Pacific's OAR is 2.35:1 and that is what is was shown on BBC HD.

It was 2.35:1 on BBC2 in SD, via both Sky and Freeview.

C4 are currently showing Tora! Tora! Tora! the same way.

Ah, Tora! Tora! Tora! - so good they named it thrice

It wasn't here, it started in 2.35:1 for the opening credits but switched to 16:9.

I was watching about 30 mins in, and it was still 2.35:1 there. I've no idea which actors were singing as I've not watched it before, but it was a man and a woman and the credits were long gone.

I saw Sky High was 2.35:1, on BBC1 earlier this afternoon. Forgot to check on Superman Returns. Anyone know about that one, please? Ta.

Weird, I specifically noticed it was 16:9 at the beginning, hopefully people complained & they switched to OAR!

BBC1 (DTT) this afternoon showed Sky High in 2.35:1 (note that I just caught it whilst flipping channels, I did not watch it .....honestly)

I'm sure it was 2.35:1 when I saw it, as I rarely compliment the BBC

Was surprised to see Sky High in 2.35:1 while flicking around yet the more suitable Superman Returns was cropped .
They seem to make up the rules as they go along.

Show everything in its correct ratio then nobody can complain

I would've expected Superman to be in 2.35:1 following showing Sky High just before it. Good to see, at least, that they're not just relegating films to the late screenings.

Yes , a daytime 2.35:1 screening on BBC1 is a real step forward and it would be nice to know their reasoning.

If there has been a change in policy then Superman Returns would have been broadcast using the same master as their previous airing.

Well, I thought about that, but they went with the 2.35:1 master for The Rock and Crimson Tide, recently, rather than the 16:9 print they used before. Not sure if they've shown Sky High before. It doesn't appear to be a premiere so if they have done, I presume it was 16:9 before.

And woe betide them if they ever try to get away with a 4:3 Raiders trilogy again, since they don't have 16:9 prints (since otherwise they would've used them).

It's one of the films they've got on Iplayer and it's in the original ratio. If it was 16:9 (like Oklahoma is on there) the BBC logo at the top would eat into the picture.

Earlier this year South Pacific was on BBC HD and BBC2 at the same time.
It was 2.35:1 on BBC HD and 16:9 on BBC2

Is it just "England" now? I recall seeing "BBC TWO North West" idents and news bulletins.

FIVER was showing Hook yesterday and it started and ended in 2.35:1 but was zoomed in for the rest of it. The terrestrial channels are showing signs of improvement, but what about sister channels?

E4/More 4/ Film 4 all show films in the OAR but ITV's usually don't, BBC 3 has on one occasion then on a repeat cropped it again, and Channel 5's don't either.

It's England, Scotland, Wales and NI. All variants are available on Sky (don't know about Virgin).

BBC2 screening a particuarly rubbish print of Heroes of Telemark right now. Seems to have a case of the shakes aside from poor defintion. Looks more Movies for Men standard than BBC to be honest.

It's awful isn't it, fortunately the DVD is 2.35:1 and only £2.99 with a load of extras too.

I think it's just a case of waiting for the old prints to run their course/license as far as the terrestrial channels are concerned.

Agreed. Only C4 made the effort to source new prints in almost all cases (exceptions including Eraser and Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan, going by the recent screening on a Saturday evening).

I also noticed the rather good print for Mohicans, and the one smeared in grease for Heroes of Telemark (in 16:9). God, that looked awful!
