Put the ad in the paper and no response as yet, apart from someone asking me how she disappeared, wondering if I'd been burgled, as she has 2 house cats that don't like going out. I explained how it'd happened and she seemed nice enough, but for a second my hopes were up. Had to fight tears on the phone when I realised she wasn't ringing to tell me were Willow was.

I passed my driving test, which is supposed to be fab, but I'd fail it 100 times if it meant having Willow back. I think the reason I passed was because my mind was on other things rather than stressing about my driving. Shame that something that is supposed to be a new chapter for me doesn't mean much to me at the moment.

Have you thought about getting help from 'the old enemy', so to speak?

Hire a sniffer dog, give it the scent of the cat's blankets or bedding and patrol the local area. Could be expensive and no guarantee of success, but if there's any trail to be found, a sniffer dog might be your best bet of finding her.

I don't know if this would interfere with the sniffer dog's ability to track, but maybe you could increase your chances further by smearing her cat food along lots of trails in a wider area, all leading to a central region (imagine a spiderweb pattern) where the sniffer dog can focus its search on?

Or if you can afford it, hire a pet detective?

So sorry you haven't found her yet. Was reading this thread desperately hoping for a happy ending

As she is a house cat, she will be unlikely to have gone too far or have ventured onto roads, etc. She has most likely got trapped in somewhere, like a garage. My first cat, Tigger, went for 9 days once, scared the life out of us! Don't give up hope. She is a gorgeous girl, btw x

P.S. Just an idea, but how about a Facebook page for her, with a piccie or 3 - never underestimate the power of Facebook - especially as she looks so distinctive!

I am in Hull. Which area are you in? I'm in HU5 and will keep an eye open for her if I'm anywhere near you.

Someone local started a facebook group for their missing cat and she was found in Pearson Park. Might be worth trying as it's a great way to let people know in the local area and spread the word.

I am so sorry you have lost your cat, she is very beautiful

Many years ago one of my house cat's got out of my son's bedroom window it was such a narrow gap and heavy to move she must have wiggled herself into the width of a snake.
After searching everywhere and dropping notices in letterboxes's we found her two doors down in a neighbour's outside bin cupboard which had been checked on day one, we found her in there two days after that.
So I guess it is worth checking again closer to home.
I am sending you lots of good luck to help find your puss and remember especially with housecats then can get out through the narrowest of gaps and if someone feeds her a scrap or two it may take a little longer to bring her home.

Sadly some people seem to be on a wind-up when cats are lost - I got several people who rang me simply to tell me about their cat they lost rather than help find mine.

However, I disagree that because she is a house cat she must be near. In my view house cats know nothing of the outside, so are more likely to wander and possibly get in a car or van and get carried away.

Do remember that there are cats known to have been round one way or another after long periods of time. I've lost cats three times, the first time he vanished without trace for good (possibly voted with his feet as I had a terminally ill cat at the time and two new kittens), the second came back of his own accord after 10 days (so, so pleased to be home, not hungry, thirsty or dirty) and the last time I found him through leafleting.

The last one was a house cat - they got out one hot night when I slept with my bedroom window open and hadn't shut the bedroom door properly (I was recovering from major surgery).

In fact both he and his sister must have been out but she got all the braincells and was around in the morning. After some help leafleting the next day I got a call before we finished from a woman who saw the one in one of the village shops, and we went around and collected him. He was very, very scared and it took a couple of days for him to settle down again.

Hi OP, if you have not already leafletted individual houses, I would do so (and in particular all the flats in the block). When my cat got lost I put up dozens of posters on trees, but I also leafletted the houses in the three surrounding roads. It was the leaflet-through-the door which found him (he was shut in an empty house less than 100 yards away).

I didn't get any wind-up calls - but I did get several people excitedly telling me they could see him in their gardens - several days after I had already found him. So nice to know that people were looking out for him though.

It is possible for any cat to get into a van/car and end up miles away, but as this is a timid cat completely unused to the outdoors she is (IMO) more likely to be hiding relatively nearby. And if she turns up at any rescue centre or vet, she is microchipped so the OP would be contacted immediately. I really hope you find her soon OP.

Print up leaflets to distribute...but actually knock on doors and hand them to neighbours, ask them to check lock ups garages etc WHILE you wait.
Do it again after a few days!
Sprinkle her used litter, and/or the contents of the hoover bag around the vicinity so her own scent can draw her back.
Walk around the area late at night or very early morning when it is quieter, calling her name or rattling her biscuit box...you are more likely to hear her response.

If she's never been out before, she won't be far away. The first time my housecat got out and saw darkness, he was frozen with fear under a hedge, literally feet away. I would knock on all the doors within a few hundred yards of your flat. It is likely that she's in someone's garden, probably under a hedge or bush. If you go out after dark with a torch, you may see her eyes blinking back at you.

Just a thought but I'd bet one of your neighbours has seen her. Hunger will overcome her shyness soon and she will no doubt approach them for food. They're canny little things. She's probably in the garden of a nice little ol' lady rather than that of a big noisy family.

You'll find her, keep your chin up

Several of us have already suggesed this, but the OP says she cannot go out after dark/early morning due to babysitting issues. So she is depending on posters and notices in local paper... hopefully Willow will get taken to a vet or rescue as she has no visible means of ID, but does have a chip.

It's a block of flats so not sure the neighbours would be very happy about having used litter or vac bag contents sprinkled in communal areas!

Hi all

No good news I'm afraid. Still hoping to see her in the main hall everytime I come home. I'm going out with my bf tomorrow evening to put up a load more posters (Mam looks after the little one, once a week). Thing is, the area is mainly businesses. Lots of factories for her to be wandering around the grounds. I've posted leaflets to a fair few but have ran out. My boss is going away this week though so I'll print some out, then a lot more when they've headed off.

Good advice about scattering cat litter. I'll do that tomorrow. Still got her tray sat there. The neighbours have been fab btw, giving advice about the area and resident cats in the area, and one neighbour has even been out looking for her himself. I've put posters in both blocks of flats, they're only small blocks, but the posters are handy for visitors and people like the postman.

It's been a week now, and I worry about her in this weather. She's a breed that's bred from a colder area, plus she only ever drank water from the running bath tap! Spoilt madam she was lol. I'm just hoping she is having the time of her life exploring,
