The Forsyth Saga
Easylistener
06-07-2010
It's now July and still no word on whether Bruce Forsyth will host Strictly Come Dancing this year. The press launch, traditionally at the end of August, is only a matter of weeks away. What is going on?

Do we usually get told officially he has signed up before the press launch or is it just the papers that say so? (i can't remember ).

Why would there be an announcement to state the status quo? Surely it would be more likely to have an announcement if someone else was taking the reins.

I hope he is staying even if it is for just 1 more year so everyone can say a proper goodbye to him

Unless he isn't doing the show, I wouldn't expect to hear any special announcement.

He now wants his wife to be a contestant on the show.....for goodness sake is there no end to his ridiculousness.

Don't tempt me.

I read on Yahoo that no-one has signed, no dancers, no celebrities and no Bruce! Yet!

Surely the pro dancers MUST have signed if it was announced they were doing the show when in the same press release it said that dance troupe places "had been offered" to the rest. ? [logic?]

Yes, i quite agree.

Quote:
“According to The Sun, the show will now last just 12 weeks, rather than the usual 14, with the BBC apparently hoping the change will help hold viewer interest.

The newspaper also reports that "no-one has yet signed up for the show", with host Bruce Forsyth and the usual lineup of professional dancers still waiting on new contracts.”

Official BBC Press Release from a few weeks ago versus a Sun story ........ a difficult choice?

If you read Erin's Bio on her and Anton's website it says something like

"........Erin is delighted to have been invited to take part in the 8th series....."

Sounds like they have definitely been asked.

I shall vote with my feet this time if Bruce is invited back as host. I've weaned myself off Neighbours, Home & Away, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks in the past, and what you don't watch, you don't miss! If the BBC is stupid enough not to recognise he's well past his sell by date, they don't deserve it to continue to be a success.

For those of you, who, like me, are old enough to remember Brucie with his then wife 'Twirl girl' Anthea Redfern on the Generation Game, this will strike horror into your hearts. For on that show every week there was a little domestic repartee from him that was so boring and uninteresting that it had to be seen to be believed.

The thought of this happening again with Wilnelia is more than I, a dedicated Strictly Fan can take. Also he would not allow anyone to critisise her if she took part, and would throw his toys out of the pram every week if the judges chose to do so.

I'd take this idea with a pinch of salt.

The article that I read wasn't that Brucie wants his wife to do it, rather that she'd quite like to do it. That seems to be in theory only, though - she seems to realise that her doing SCD while Bruce is still involved could cause problems.

Forsyth wife wants 'Strictly' role

From reading that I'd assume that she was asked directly by a journalist if she'd want to do it and said yes and the journalist thought they'd make a story out of it.

Even if she went on after Bruce had left it may still be a bit odd for the judges considering the number of years they've been working with Bruce. Although I can't imagine it stopping Craig from being honest

Didn't he have Wilnelia on one of his shows before? (possibly a Generation Game type thing ) where the competitors had to do a Carmen Miranda Type number.... she was Carmen - and the person who came back to give the scores...

Let's put it all down to rumour. Wilnelia on the show would have to mean Brucie off it, or the judges would be unable to deliver their usual soothing verdicts.

There are no non-soap stars yet signed up for Series 8.
The Beeb is either scraping the barrel for past contestants of other shows (so much for "teaching" and "the journey") or is deliberately holding its cards tight to collective chest in the hope of passing Brucie's deadline for "show me the stars and I'll sign".

The "Egg and Grapes" at Upper Northington plans to host the Alternative Strictly Series 8 with decent prizes: a Mediterranean cruise as first prize for the contestants and a lounge suite for each judge. Brendan and his new missus may declare interest.
