My spanking new BT Vision box arrived, bang on time & have been setting up but unfortunately it doesn’t work.

When I go to get “on demand” stuff an error 04 comes up. I called the help number and they ran a few tests but this didn’t solve it so he said that someone would have to check the line more and this may take a few days. As my broadband works fine (I get just over 6MBps) I’m just interested in

1 What tests did the chap on the phone do?
2 What could be the problem with the line as broadband works fine?

As I say im just interested.

Anyone know?

Cheers,

Mike

How does the vision box connect to the hub? are you directly connected with an ethernet cable or are you using the powerline adaptors?

You may not have QOS enabled on the line. If I remember correctly, I had a V04 when I was upgraded to ADSL2 and the QOS wasn't carried over.

Go to www.speedtester.bt.com and do a test. You should get a result for Assured Rate if you have QOS enabled.

The results are

Download speedachieved during the test was - 3706 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :7040 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 6000 Kbps

Doe this tell you anything ref the problem

Well, I was about say yes there is no QOS on the line as their is no Assured Rate test, but having just run the test myself, it seems the tester has changed since I last used it and I dont get the Assured Rate test results either. So I'm not sure.

However, it might be worth a call and asking specifically if QOS has been configured.
