E-Bay have an Android app

http://pages.ebay.com/mobile/android.html

Although it is displayed on the Android market place website, the Android market place on my phone, does not have it.

I have had the age verification removed from my account in case that was blocking it. The staff at t-mobile say it must be a Google or e-bay issue.

I have a T-Mobile Pulse mini with Android 2.1.

Any one know if the app is compatible, does any one have the official eBay app running on their Android phone and if so what version do you have?

I can use the mobile version of e-bay in my web browser, but it would be nice to have the official app. Facebook and YouTube work OK.

I'm not going to install it but I just searched the marketplace with 'ebay' and it was the first app found.

I am running a Nexus with Android 2.2 on T-Mobile. Does the fact your phone is a 'mini' limit some applications perhaps?

I think you might be right. We both have T-mobile phones, If it works with Android 2.2, it should work with 2.1.

T-Mobile technical support say they have no control over the phones, Android marketplace app. It was created by Google, when they created Android. If the eBay app is not there, it must be something, either Google have done or e-bay.

I searched with "eBay", but also went through all the shopping apps. I get four e-bay related but none are the official one.

It seems quite hard to contact e-bay, I tried, but I think I need to join first. I just wanted to get my phone set up initially.

Maybe it is just a case of the phone marketplace app scanning each app online and comparing it to the capabilities of the phone. If it is compatible it lists it for download.

Well it's definitely there at the moment for me. Although logic tells me it won't make a difference I actually searched for 'Ebay'.

It's a problem with the official T-Mobile Pulse ROM. Basically the developer has marked the app as 'copy-protected' (to reduce piracy) and therefore it will only get listed on officially registered Android Market devices. The trouble is, the Pulse was never officially registered. It probably should be, but it isn't. So none of the copy-protected apps appear for the standard Pulse. However the MoDaCo Custom ROMs have a fix for it (by masquerading as a HTC Hero) so if you use a MCR ROM for the Pulse then you'll see all of the apps on the Android Market, including the copy-protected ones.

Well there's your problem!

Ouch! From the last sentence I am guessing it isn't as simple as downloading the app on your pc and installing it on the phone manually.

Actually it could be simply because the mini screens to small. Any T-mobile Pulse owners with 3.5 inch screens have this app?

No, it does sounds worryingly complicated. This is the forum.

and this is something involving ROM flashing.

I don't even know who these people are or if ROM flashing is very complicated.

T-mobile did suggest I contact HTC and gave me a helpline number. I will give it a go tomorrow.

Is it the Chinese manufacturer or T-miobile who is responsible for registering the product with the Androiad marketplace?

As I understand it the only ebay app in the Android Marketplace is for ebay.com which is why it doesn't show up for UK Android phones, here is the ebay.com page with all their mobile apps - http://pages.ebay.com/mobile/

The UK app is due to be launched next week according to a Twitter post by @MiHTCDesire - http://www.myhtcdesire.com so hopefully something may appear in the Marketplace next week. Here is the ebay.co.uk page for mobile apps which only currently lists iPhone - http://pages.ebay.co.uk/mobile/
