TF5800 slow text and remote-control issues
I have just purchased a TF5800 (one of the end-of-line Currys items) and have set it all up with Mystuff 6.2.
It all works very well and I am very impressed by the customisation that it brings. However, as is the case with all PVR's, there are a couple of issues that I never expected of a Topfield and only after two days, they are driving me nuts! Specifically:- 1) The text operation is painfully slow. The loading from pressing 'text' or the red button seems like it has given up. Loading new pages is just the same-Perhaps its an in-built feature that gives you time to make a cup of tea? ![]() 2) The remote has new batteries and when a button is pressed, the green light on the Topfield flashes (so it has received the command). BUT!, the Topfield will not respond to every command. It seems to respond to every other command. This means numerous button presses and delays. Is this operation normal for a Topfield? If it is, then it will have to go back. If it isn't, how can it be addressed? Many thanks. |

I can't say I've ever seen either of those behaviours on a Toppy. I've been using one for years, I would say that Text is probably as fast as any other STB I've seen and the remote tends to be quite responsive unless either the batteries are low or the Hard disk has gone to sleep (if you disable the time-shift buffer).
Do you know if you are using the recommended firmware? i.e. did you use the MyStuff installer which should have taken care of that. If it's a new 5800pvrt (the one with the blue light) then they are supplied with a very unrelable firmware on them. Also it might be worth checking some other batteries in the remote as Curry's have probably had your 5800 sat in a box for some years so the batteries may be past their use by date. I doubt anything will be wrong with the hardware to be honest. Even if there is a fault Curry's should honour the warranty, if not the UK distributer is Turbosat and they should be able to help. |

With MyStuff it sometimes ignores key presses if it is in the middle of doing its hourly load and search of EPG info.
Many Toppy users do not bother with Interactive Services and have it turned off so do not use the Red Button. Or use a TAP which temporarily turns on Interactive Services when the Red Button is pressed then turn it off again afterwards. The other tip is to turn off Time Shifting, You can still pause and chase play live TV if and when you want to but better to press Record rather than Pause. If a programme is worth watching it is worth recording. |

Thank you for the replies.
I installed Mystuff 6.2 from scratch with all associated files and firmware. My TF5800 is a Black Panther edition, but it is obviously one of the last ones prior to the face-lift version because it came with the last Freeview Playback firmware. The box also has Freeview Playback stickers on it. On checking the system, it now has the latest (recommended) firmware for Mystuff operation. I have noticed that the remote operation is slightly better with Mystuff disabled, but the green light on the display always comes on with any button press. The Topfield then seems to react quickly to the command or simply ignore it. It sometimes takes another two presses to get it to react. I have put brand new batteries in, but as the green light comes on with each press, the remote must be okay? I have just changed from an Inverto (due to loss of EPG data) and am really impressed with the Topfield. Unfortunately, little things like this remote problem (and slooow... text loading), can ruin the experience. Ah well!!!

Good reply!!!!!!!
Problem is, with Mystuff 6.2, the box is almost perfect. The ignoring of remote-commands and the extra key presses to get it to do something is a nuisance just after switching on. Fast-forward three hours and its not so funny. The remote hasn't been flung against the wall yet but its getting close. ![]()
