Hi

The wife has upgraded her 3 gs to V4 software and now has her gmail emails pushed to her phone. She doesn't like this, can it be switched off? I have a daughter with a similar dislike of this with her iphone 4 and she to would like to disable this as well.

I can tell what your thinking " Isn't this a good thing and I've been waiting ages for this" Well no, not around my house it's not.... Help please

Settings > Mail, Contacts & Calendar > Fetch New Data > Off

To be honest a 5 year old could work it out

It is nothing new either, maybe installing iOS4 has reset some settings.

A 5 year old you say, maybe, but the would the 5 year old know this when not being allowed to look at said phone?

I will advise the women in my family on how to change the settings of their phones.

Wish me luck

I have to ask - what don't they like about it?

I stand by what I said whether it makes me a prick or not (and I did indeed give the correct answer instead of simply being a prick).

iOS is designed to be incredibly easy to use. If you want to change your mail settings, isn't it natural to make the two taps required to do so? Or is it sheer laziness on the end-users part?

I to am curious as to why they want it turned off?

You could have been a bit more subtle. Some people don't know about the settings and what they do. Of course, I'm guessing you look at the world where everyone knows everything about technology.

Oh - and you were wrong anyway.

Settings - Mail, Contacts, Calendars - Fetch New Data - Set Push to Off, and set the desired fetch frequency (by the sounds of it, manually would be the best option).

Ah. thanks for that, 'cause apparently the previous suggestion didn't work.

They don't like it, I'm not going to enquire. It will end up being my fault
