Would EE be more popular if Corrie was still bad/not on air?
Our Niall

Hi. I've been wondering:
If Corrie was still going through the 'bad patch' it went through during 2000/2001 or if it didn't exist at all and the standard of EE was as bad as it is now, would we complain so much because we don't have Corrie to watch and EE would probably be the most popular then so would we hate it as much without Corrie as we do with it? Do you get me?

This is something I can't decide for myself and I'd like some more opinions. Ta.

well when you think about it, if corrie never came on air, we wouldnt have eastenders. anyway Eastenders is crap....deal with it.

Yea i think we would be complaining still. EE has ben great for years and suddenly over this past year its become awful, so yea people still would complain by comparing it to the old EE like is happening now! Even by comparing it to the EE of only a couple of years ago! These are actually the Main criticisms, the fact that EE is so bad compared to how It use to be, not compared to Corrie.

I'd say that Emmerdale or one of the other soaps (maybe Family Affairs/Crossroads) would be on at the 7.30 (or 7 if Emmerdale was in Corrie's slots) time and would just simply get Corrie's ratings due to more people getting home from work, more money being put its way etc.

Had Corrie been through a bad patch now, and with EE's terrible storylines I think this would give ammunition for Emmerdale to become the number one soap or give the 4th placed programme chance to lead the ratings chart.

Eastenders still gets better overall ratings - will people stop moaning. It's as depressing as the storylines.

I think EE has improved slightly recently, and it really does depend what corrie bad patch you meant, cuz there have been a few..

Look, I know people love complaining about EE, but I tell ya, come over to this side of the Irish sea.. sit down and watch Fair City and THEN you'll have something to complain about for sure!

I know. Such stupid storylines. Sorcha and Ross's 'affair' is the most unbelievable and unconvincing I have ever seen in a soap. The young actors in Fair City are even worse than in EE, and THAT'S saying something. Jenny, Laura and Stephen to name but a few. The only good one is Mondo who hasn't been in it since...

Look at the proper ratings - not the HEAT version. Corrie is ahead! Fact.

It is a joke to think that EE is ahead at the moment. Magazines like Heat and Inside Soap are living in the past when EE used to be popular. Remember: USED TO BE. Corrie is so much better at the moment. the storylines, acting and comedy are a million times better than EE with their stupid 'Kat sleeps with Andy to save Alfie's life' and 'The Ferreiras are going to lose their house' 'sensational' storylines. If EE is ahead at the moment, then why have they hit their lowest ever ratings? Not because there was an hour-long episode of Emmerdale or because the weather happened to be good on that particular night...because it's rubbish!!!

The ratings in Heat are always wrong, they even had viewing figures printed showing EE beating Corrie, during the Hillman Confession! Heat are always loyal to EE anyway, but still love the mag.

Ugh! have you seen the cover of the RTE guide? Ahh, I was ready to tear my eyes out when I saw it lying on the coffee table yesterday.

Interesting question.....do we say Eastenders is bad because it's not as good as Corrie, or because it is just bad?

If Corrie wasn't on, we'd probably compare it with Emmerdale, but personally I don't think Emmerdale has been spectacular recently anyway. But then of course, the what if spreads the other way.

Had Corrie been axed, what would ITV have done with Emmerdale? Would Crossroads or Night and Day have a better slot with better ratings? Would there be a different soap in Corire's place. And of course, would Eastenders really be busting a gut to get something different?

I s'pose we'll never know.

It's true that Inside Soap favours Eastenders over Corrie and Emmerdale - Eastenders has about 40 of the 52 covers a year.
I think that we would still be complaining about Eastenders (because that's what we're best at!) but as the only other prime-time chioce is Emmerdale most of us would keep watching it in the hope that it would improve.
BTW, anyone noticed the similarities between Jane McNaught (Corrie producer during the worst ever year 2000/2001) and Louise Berridge - I could swear it's the same person.

No arguments. I'd still think DeadEnders was shite.
