i have a acessment coming up on thursdsy i suffer from autisim and find it difficult to get to know new people i also have constant 24hour staff support and live in a care home what do you think my likely outcome is going to be just to add i also have constant staff support when i go out anywhere
The fact that you love in supported accommodation is big plus so far as PIP is concerned as it demonstrates at just what level you sit with regard to daily activities , as in you wouldn't be there if you didn't need support or assistance
You should be fine as this is good evidence which is what the DWP need
I'm assuming you will have a support worker with you at assessment, please make sure they go into the ACTUAL assessment with you and not wait in waiting room.
You will obviously score in the 'going out' section, how high I don't know but you won't score on the mobility component

Best wishes

If you get the letter turning you down, it'll give you information on the appeals process which starts with making a request for a mandatory consideration - within a strict time limit. I'd suggest going to CAB and asking for advice and help. It's something they have loads of experience in doing, and it can make all the difference. In an ideal world people shouldn't need help in jumping through disability benefit hoops but in reality, they do. Sadly, your experience isn't uncommon.

Good luck
Thank you. I have a feeling I'm going to have to appeal. I am still waiting on a decision, although I got a letter on Saturday saying they now had the information they needed to make a decision. It's taking so long, and I rang to see where it was up to and the fella on the phone gave me the generic "8 weeks", without taking any of my details.
I'm having a run of extra bad luck, and waiting for this decision is frazzling my nerves. I'm going to ring CAB and make an appointment tomorrow. I have a couple of issues I need to discuss with them, so I'll bring up the PIP whilst I'm there. Thanks for that, I didn't know they could help.

The person "helping" me with my pip form was useless. Urgh. Don't think he understood my disabilities at all. Just hope my friend is a bit more helpful on Friday.

Good luck. They rarely disagree and can only change the decision on a point of law.
Finally got confirmation today. His payments will be backdated from the day they turned him down and he can get a Motability car again!!

Does anyone know how long they are taking to do reassessments for the ESA Support group
They received my forms at the end of May (they told me on the phone) but have not received any notifications from them originally my original term should have ended a year or two ago but it was not until May I received anything from them
I am on PIP which i was assessed for last year & have it until 2026 or there about
So was wondering how long they may take i am in Northamptonshire if that makes any difference

Based on mine(also in Northants), it could be any day now. Form was returned near end of April. WCA originally scheduled for 2nd Aug, but rescheduled on 13th Aug. Was originally notified mid July.

Okay so I posted earlier in the thread but stopped posting because I am superstitious about these things. It has been 5 months since I completed my ESA50 renewal. It has taken several faxes from my GP, personal letters, a home doctors visit for a WCA assessment and today I found out I am in the Work ESA group. I have been in the Support group for 3 years and things have gotten so much worse since then. I have not had a formal letter, just a letter from the job centre demanding my appearance next week. I have not left the house in over a year. I am stunned. I think this is some sort of sick joke. I feel really despondent. I like to think the best of people but it is now clear to me that all people care about is saving money and if people fall by the wayside it doesn't matter. I don't know what to do now.

My Husband had to go for several Job Centre interviews while they was looking at him so that doesn't mean you will not still get to stay in the support group
Good Luck

Challenge the decision. Write in asking for a "mandatory reconsideration". Google the ESA descriptors and see where you feel they have scored you lower than you think you should be scored. Include in your letter for each descriptor what you think you should have scored and explain why. You need to get 15 points to be in the support group.

Then explain that they have not taken into account your inability to leave the house. If your problem is a mental health one, explain that the effects of having to attend work-related activity would have a serious effect on your mental health and that the provisions of Regulation 29 should apply. This explains the regulation and how it should be used .

It sounds as though your GP is supportive, if he will issue a medical certificate saying that you cannot attend the job centre appointment, cancel it and send in the certificate as evidence that you are unable to attend.

It's so hard to get a home visit that the very fact you got one should make the support group a given!

Get advice from the CAB, law centre or similar organisation, as decisions are rarely changed at the first stage and you will probably have to go to appeal.

Sorry, I can't remember, but I don't think so. I was lucky they sent out the reminder to send in the form back, as they hadn't sent one in the first place.

^^^ That is excellent advice and the nearest CAB office can be found here: https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/ab...advice/advice/

If anyone has to make a benefit appeal then it is always worth getting that help because, according to the reports I've read, that effectively doubles the appeal success rate.

You need a proper decision letter - if it doesn't arrive soon, can you phone to find out what's going on? Or ask someone to ring for you. I would normally reiterate the advice to go to Citizens Advice but if you can't leave the house, that's not a possibility. But you really do need the official letter from the DWP. Good luck.

Just wanted to say thank you for your advice Lakie. It is very much appreciated. I was really upset yesterday and couldn't think straight. I have decided to take a breather over the weekend and just compose myself and maybe get some much needed sleep. On Monday I am going to start constructing my mandatory reconsideration letter. I am going to look into all of your advice. I have a little kernel of hope that I may change things yet. Thank you for replying.

Thank you Little Nell for replying I'm going to try to fight for this. As a character in my second favourite Dickens novel after Great Expectations you must be a good luck charm.

not heard from Phepia for a while now wonder how she got on with her pip ?
Still waiting for a second court date for the Pip hun, And for Maximus (or whatever they call themselves nowadays) to decide what to do over my Esa reassessment.
It is now 7 months since Pip was stopped, have lost over 2 1/2 stone due to their withdrawing the help that would've paid for pre chopped food etc. Ah well I guess that will help with the OA pain with not being so big, sadly it's not helped it either as I now have to chop the veggies and that's where the OA pain comes from (shoulders) Can't win them all I guess.

wow Phepia 2 and half stone in 7 months thats a lot, although you did say you were piling the weight on because you couldnt eat anything but cheap food now cos of loss of benefits.

As for having to chop veggies can your hubby not do those for you on an evvebning i know he works during the day, or a friend or family member if its the cause of your osteo arthritis pain.

i didnt realise you are also waiting for an esa reasessment too were both of your benefits stopped together did they give you reasons for this?

i hope you get your pip and esa decisions soon.

let us know how you get on.
