O2 spam text
Does anyone else have this problem ? I Keep getting spam texts from O2 for this and that, I DO NOT WANT THEM. I have text stop on several occasions but after a few weeks or so they start up again even phoned O2 to put a stop to this but still they send these annoying texts. What part of do not send me texts does O2 not understand. So its goodbye O2 and off to find another mobile phone provider who listens to its customers. Rant over!

On every text I've received from O2 (had one a few days ago to thank me for my iPhone purchase) they include instructions to stop the texts.

If you contact O2 and tell them you no longer wish to receive texts from them, they will happily stop sending them. Incidentally, they ask you when you join O2 whether you want to receive texts. |

Orange used to do this to me with an old PAYG back up phone I had, I had to call them three times to get them stopped.

Texting STOP is how you stop premium rate texts. Its not going to work for texts from your service provider.

I have phoned O2 customer services and asked them to stop but still they keep sending texts, also in the text i get phone this number to stop texts I do this and yet they still send them. I was never asked if I wanted to receive texts. (this is a payg phone)
Are you sure these texts actually are from O2? ( The description actually sounds like the spam third parties send out) |

Having said that, if the texts the OP is receiving are actually from O2 itself then they may not necessarily be coming from a particular number. |

so you sit there calling me a liar Why ? I have not been asked about texts when i moved to o2 . yes they are from o2 as the texts are for bolt ons and other promotions from o2. if i had been asked i would have said no.
I would imagine that you have forgotten doing it, nothing more sinister than that. |

Good question. I'm actually signed up to receive "marketing" texts from O2 (you need to be for O2 Surprises, as they send you the Surprise code via text) but - Surprise codes aside - I have only had one text from them in the last 6 months or so.

I did not call you a liar, as other people have confirmed you need to sign up to receive marketing texts from O2.
I would imagine that you have forgotten doing it, nothing more sinister than that. I DID NOT SIGN UP NOR WAS I ASKED IF I WANTED TO RECEIVE TEXTS FROM O2, I am not stupid so dont treat me so if this is your input then dont help or comment on this post. I find your remarks offensive and rude. You dont know what was said in the shop when bought the phone so dont presume to tell me that I have forgotten what I was told or singned up for. |

If you are definitely sure they are from O2 a letter to them saying you want them to cease processing your personal data (your mobile phone number) for the purposes of marketing under section 11 of the data protection act sent to their head office should do the trick

"the Crafty-Cost Nark surprises you with a land line bill every month so every thing's dearer. We've put o2 home" I can not read the rest as my phone will not let me scroll the message. |

Look, I've no intention of upsetting you, but you need to accept that people will have advice for you that doesn't fit in with your pre-conceptions. There is no malice involved and no personal comments have been made. (see section 15 of your pay and go agreement with O2 - which you must have agreed to) If you've asked them to stop then they should stop sending them, but you need to do it in the correct way. The methods of opting out are listed in your agreement, but to save you looking you can contact them at mycare@o2mail.co.uk or The Data Controller, Telefonica O2, 260 Bath Road, Slough, SL1 4DX. Remember to tell them your mobile number and the full name and address you registered with. I imagine you also have location services on your phone, if so you can change that by calling 1300. |

I do not wish to argue with you on a public forum. At no time when I bought my phone from the o2 shop was I made aware of any conditions regarding promotional texts from o2, I bought the phone, they set it all up and I walked away from the shop with said phone. I did not sign anything. I thank you for your post regarding stopping the texts from o2, but have decided to change phone providers. This is my final comment on the subject. thanks again for everyone's help. |

When you take up service with a new provider, I suggest you make yourself aware of the whole text you are offered. Especially the opt-in offers they give by default.

As a general point and not referring to the OP.
Many people seem reluctant to read and understand the policies, instructions, terms and conditions that they agree to when taking up a service. Its especially disappointing when they are so short as (for example) the O2 pay and go agreement. So your advice is very good. |
