I would bet Android provides google with all kinds of information which is why they don't charge for it.
Android is open-source, so if anyone was so inclined they'd be able to root through the code and find out exactly what information was going back to Google.

Yes... but this is not particular just to iPhones... basically any smartphone can be spied on using a number of now available spy software...

In fact if you want to monitor your children, spouse or an employee you can do so with a program called spybubble...

you can log all cell phone activity and have gps cell phone tracking...

Surely it is a good thing for you to be able to be traced via your phone should you go missing. I don't see why anyone has any problem with a phone user being able to be traced; after all, if you've done nothing wrong and have nothing to hide, then you have nothing to fear from it.
