Have you looked to see if there is an alternative solution? There may be a lead that plugs direct from laptop DC socket to the fag lighter. No need for an inverter or the laptops charger. A lot depends obviously on what sort of voltage the laptop needs. It may need a DC to DC converter if it uses more than 12V which might add a few quid to the price.

If there is nothing like that then the inverter may well be the only solution.

Look on the bottom of the power supply for the rating label. That will tell you what power it can provide. Use that as the starting point when choosing the inverter. Just get one that is rated at least the same amount and maybe 10-20% higher at least. One that I have used and found to work very well is this...

Though the fag lighter lead is a bit, shall we say, "length challenged"

I've used it with portable audio kit and unlike some others it produces a clean enough mains output not to cause to much noise or buzz on the speakers. So it should be perfectly OK for a laptop charger.

For less stress on the car and the laptop just get a laptop car adapter.
From £6.
