Manon, Saturday, 18:00 on BBC Radio 3
More info here http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00swpnq
I saw this production a few days ago and it was excellent.... The only change to the cast from the night we went is that Guillot was played by Guy De Mey. Anna was superb in the title role and overall the production has recieved good reviews, even smiley at the Telegraph liked it! This was my first trip to the Opera, and I have to admit I approached it with a certain amount of trepidation, as it really isn't my preferred musical genre, but in fact I enjoyed it more than I expected.
I have to confess to wandering in and out through the Radio 3 broadcast though. I'm not happy enough with opera to sit and just listen to it, but it was quite nice to sit in the Royal Opera House and watch, when you have the staging and the 'performance' aspect to appreciate as well. I found it helped that they saw fit to have Manon strip the shirt off the tenor playing De Grieux in Act 3 too, but I expect that was the philistine in me coming to the fore
