How lame is she, no Davina.

BBUSA sucks, watching first 5 minutes its baaad. The contestants are fake, alot will be told what to say and how to act.

What i hate about American "reality tv" alot of it a staged. I remember Wife Swap had disclaimer with something along the lines of "Unlike the American version, no part of this show is recreated for entertainment purposes".

You grow to love the Chen-bot after a while. She's really not that bad, sometimes she even cracks a joke or two.

Julie Chen is FAR more tolerable than Davina. No ridiculous gurning, no acting like an excited 12 year old girl, no biased opinions.

The Chenbot is great.

And the first 5 minutes are really not the best to judge the show by. That's when the housemates get their keys, and those bits are very staged and corny.

It's when they are actually in the house and playing the game when it gets good.

BBUSA sucks? hahaha. really?

BBUSA has been getting high ratings and generally more successful than it has been in years, and on the other side is BBUK of whom has flopped and has been axed.

Julie's been really good the last few years, watch some of the earlier seasons and watch now and she has improved.

Least shes not Bias like someone else has pointed out.

BBUSA is really good and certainly cannot be judged on the first 5 minutes.

Watch the first week or two and then judge.

Chenbot is amazing. Do not insult a national treasure. IMO, she is far and away better than Davina. At least she remains impartial and doesn't push her opinions on us like all the UK presenters do. She interviews all evictees the same, whereas you can tell when Davina doesn't like someone.

As for the shows, I don't tend to compare them as they're completely different. The only thing I would compare BBUS to is Survivor, as it's more similar to that than it will ever be to BBUK.

I love the Chenbot She keeps the show together better than Davina, and has some great catchphrases (but first etc)

You mean catchphrase?

Unless we can count the way she can stand up and turn and her hair will never move positions.

PLUS, Chen had the better maternity wear it must be said.

I didn't mean catchphrases, I meant things that are specific to her, but I didn't know how to word it

The best ones are where she stands up from the sofa, uncrossing her legs and then saying 'but first'

Her lines are most likely written for her.

Why has BBUSA been successful because they stage and recreate certain situations.

Those who watch American reality TV and believe it to be entirely true are completely deluded. Not to say BBUK is 100% reality Im sure housemates were media trained and guided about certain things to do and no to do, say and not to say before the show began. They certainly were told "Teeth look yellower on TV than they actually are, so make you brush each time you eat" or words to that effect.

The smart MTV editing, quick cuts and reaction shots which were not the actual reaction is what pisses me off. Its really obvious to me but others just dont see it.

MTV Cribs for example, you'd expect its to be somewhat real, the items shown are assumed to be property of the celebrity. Turns out alot of the times cars are rented and other things are staged, ha, a celeb had even appeared on the show in a house only being rented by him.

Odd, then that it's not the one that was canceled, hm?

Yeah because its all fake. Its forced situations forced reactions and forced entertainment. American reality tv has no integrity.

Just look at the "house guests", all "hot" "young" "attractive" people. Most with an agenda to get "big" from it, of course they're not going to be themselves. At least with BBUK there is some reality to it.

Ok you don't like, oh well your lost.

BBUSA is created the way is to keep people interested, people didn't like it at first because it was the standard big brother, with people who are doing nothing with their time, and having lame competitions.

You're kidding right? Nobody gets famous from BBUSA and you have to be living in an alternate universe if you think BBUK contestants aren't there for fame.

The only thing that's "faked" (which I wouldn't even consider fake) are the intro video's.

Yeah, most BBUS contestants go in to WIN the show and PLAY THE GAME. There is very little fame from it, you're thinking of BBUK.

The show isn't fake either. Yeah it has over-the-top incidental music (which BBUK has started using now), and quick editing but that's part of its appeal. Sometimes they are told to re-read task sheets if it didn't come across clearly enough, but they certainly aren't told to start fights, or to do this or that.

BBUS is just a much more dramatic show because the stakes are much higher. The housemates vote each other out, and winning tasks means power, so they are much more important. It's all about strategy, alliances and playing the game, and this causes much more stress, tension and drama - something that BBUK has seriously lacked the past few series.

And I'd hardly class the housemates as been "young", the majority of them this season are in their 30s, and fairly smart, some are doctors or have PhDs. I think BBUK casts younger and dumber housemates generally.

BBUSA has a more sophisticated image than BBUK does, hence Chenbot. I prefer Davina because I like the entertainment aspect of our series but I think Julie really suits the mood of their show. Putting things into perspective, our equivalent would be Emma Crosby presenting.

I'm not sure sophisticated is the right word, but I get what you mean.

In America, Big Brother is still seen as quite trashy compared to the likes of Survivor and The Amazing Race, which are more "Emmy" worthy reality competition shows. But it's not quite as trashy as Real World or your MTV reality shows.

Yes thats what I mean, I meant to say more upmarket but I couldn't think of the phrase . I guess its fair to compare it (reputation wise) to our version of The Apprentice.

Its also not as big in America either, it is relatively low key and has never really exploded like ours did, and because ours has fallen quite badly its quite a laughing stock amongst people outside of the BB circle. But its something the BB producers, and Davina herself, know all about, so they don't try to pretend to be something they aren't.

Ha, I just said that Survivor and The Amazing Race are seen as "Emmy" worthy shows, and I've just found out that Survivor was snubbed and didn't even receive an Emmy nomination this year! Which is bullshit, because Heroes vs Villains was one of the best seasons in a long long time.
