O2 in the UK and ROI
I have a friend who took out a contract with O2 UK recently for a Blackberry phone. Circumstances have changed and they are moving back to the Republic of Ireland. Will they be able to have the contract transferred from O2 UK to O2 Ireland? If not what is the best way forward? Thanks.

No, it isn't possible to take a contract from one country to another. Aside from the fact they are seperate companies, they operate under different laws, regulations, currencies and licences.

What part of the Irish Republic are they going back to? If they're fairly close to the border, the contract could still be useful as they might still be able to receive an O2 UK signal.
Other than that, it's not possible to transfer a contract like you've described, as already pointed out on this thread. However I've a friend whose contract allows him to use some of his minutes while roaming on O2 IRL, it may be worth negotiating with O2 to see if this facility is possible for the remainder of their contract if they're tied to it. Just for reference though, I can't recall seeing it anywhere - it's just my friend mentioned it. |

The O2 Ireland Bolt On might help:
http://www.o2international.co.uk/cal...andbolton.aspx Having a UK mobile could be useful in some situations as it would be cheaper for friends/family in the UK to call it rather than an Irish number. |

One of my O2 contracts has the Ireland Bolt On included for some reason - i'm not paying any extra for it and have never even been to Ireland.
edit: Ah I see it is supposed to be free on Pay Monthly

edit: Ah I see it is supposed to be free on Pay Monthly ![]() It's often added on by O2 when you take out a contract as it wont cost you anything and it means you don't have to call them to get it added at a later date. |
