Since I did the OTA update a couple of weeks ago, I've had some erratic behaviour with auto shutdown.

My machine is set to go to standby every night at midnight, and come back on at 6pm. But sometimes I'll turn it on manually in a morning to watch breakfast TV.

Some mornings, the set looks like it's in standby, with the display showing the time not the channel, and the TV is showing a black screen when I select the AV channel. But when I turn it on at the remote, the picture appears instantly with no boot sequence ... and 2 hours chase play is available.

Other mornings, it goes through the usually boot sequence and chase play is only available from when it was turned on (i.e. a few seconds ago).

On a couple of mornings, it has not been in standby at all, the channel is showing in the display and the picture appears when I select the AV channel on the TV.

And one morning, the display was showing a series of dashes - - - - - like it does when it's going into standby, suggesting that it failed to complete the standby routine.

Anyone had a similar experience or know of a solution?

Have you performed a "defaults setting" since the update?

It is inconvenient, having to retune and re-enter your schedule and preferences, but if the current situation concerns you it would be the first action to try.

Yes, I reset to default immediately after the update, as per Humax's instructions. I set up the auto shutdown again afterwards.

Why not just manually put it into standby when you go to bed and manually out of standby the next time you use it (and back into standby if it's going to be off any length of time).

If you are willing to monitor the forums for notice of firmware upgrades, turn off the option to automatically search for firmware.

There were two reason I started doing it. The first no longer applies...it was so that the EPG was already populated by the time I got home from work. The second is so that whatever time I get home from work, I can chase play if needed. This might be because i've heard some interesting local news and want to rewind to watch the local news programme, or if I get home later I might rewind the One Show to see who was on. But I don't want to record those programs every day and keep having to delete them .. it just suits me doing it this way.

That makes no difference either.
Ive also suffered this issue since the update and no matter how many times its switched off it still remains in active standby.
The only way to fix it is to either to switch off from mains/switch at the back or revert to defaults.
Ive reported this to Humax and all I got was the bog standard email of remove aerial, defaults etc.

This morning was worse. It was in the 'active standby' state, but wouldn't come out of it. I had to turn it off at the switch 3 times before I could get it to boot up properly.

I've upgraded my mother's machine as well and she has a different set of problems. It does seem as though Humax have spent months working on this update and still made a bit of a mess of it.

I've had the 'active standby' state a few times in the past - on v21. Not seen it at all since upgrading to v23. However, we only ever manually go to/from standby and have autoupdate off.

Which transmitter are you using (The Wrekin or Sutton Coldfield?) and what sig strength/quality readings does the Humax report for each of the 6 muxes?

If I was suffering the same as you I'd be tempted to try reloading v21 and then upgrading to v23 again via serial cable, with default settings in-between to see if things improve.... if not I'd then I'd have to consider a reformat of the disk.

I am having problems with series record it appears it wont record two program at once particularly noticeable when Corrie is on, it wouldnt allow me to now set series link for Corrie for immediate future like tonight with BBC waterloo road and other programs on schedule

Seems a lot of people have been experiencing this of late, possibly symptomatic with the hot humid weather we have had recently. The fix is fairly straightforward.
