Eastenders might go back to three episodes a week from as early as october! they also want to do special's to go head to head with corrie and emmerdale 'BBC boses said if ITV can play dirty so can we' This comes as news about a complete overhall of the soap is to be announced.

It's not Eastenders that needs to drop episodes, it's Corrie! This 6 episodes a week thing is WAY too much! Esp. if ppl watch all three, look at Monday and Friday nights:
7.00 - Emmerdale
7.30 - Coronation Street
8.00 - Eastenders
8.30 - Coronation Street
2 whole hours of soap!

In my opinion, all the soaps should go back to their original twice weekly shows or a one hour episode, one night a week. I think that if they were to do this then the quality of the acting and the scripts would improve a lot. Especially Eastenders.

Totally agree. 3 episodes a week (of 30 mins) should be an absolute maximum.

That's unlikely to happen though as they get good viewing figures. If the TV companies cut down they're unlikely to find a replacement programme for the vacant slot that will get an equal (or greater) amount of viewers.

Were Neighbours and H&A on 5 times a week when they started ?
And 1 hour episode 1 night a week isn't this a drama ?

I think they were. Neighbours and Home and Away work a bit like Doctors, they've always been 5 days, so you don't think anything of it. We've known what it's like to have 2/3 Corrie and Eastenders episodes a week, and let's face it, it was slightly better.

I should have made it more clear that I meant the top three soaps Corrie, Eastenders and Emmerdale. Also, I really don't think that you thinking that the soaps aren't drama's would stop them being broadcast for one hour, one night a week. Why would it?

better scripts in the first place might help.and corrie is developing the depression tendencies of late.

Yeah, i hour a week would just make it a drama like Casualty. 3 eps is fine (or 4 in Corries case)

If they went back to a couple of shows a week wouldn't that give the scriptwriters more time to develop better scripts and the actors more time to rehearse before they starting filming? Producing better quality shows all around.
Also the money that would be saved could be used to develop much needed new shows which would allow new talent to come through.

Even if they went back to 3 episodes a week it still doesn't cure the bad plot lines and script writing.
